The Gorge Games start this week. July 17-20, 2008.
The Gorge Games began in 1994 as one of the most exciting action and outdoor sports events in the Pacific Northwest. Many world class athletes come to compete in the events here in the gorge. Events are scheduled from Cascade Locks to The Dalles and on both sides of the Columbia River in Oregon and Washington. There are so many events and activities planned I don't know where to begin. Here are some of this weekends events.
There will be a Kids Action Village-open to children of all ages and includes cross training in the following sports/activities:

Booty Hunt Pub Crawl Thursday, July 17 7:00pm - 1:00am
Fashion Show Friday, July 18 7:00pm - 9:00pm
Columbia Ave Street Party Friday, July 18 8:00pm - 11:00pm
Gorge Games 2008 is also going Green. Organizers are committed to this event being "waste free".
There will be composting bins, a recycling center for plastic, glass, and aluminum. Also food service items will be made with PLA-corn based and are biodegradable.
Environmental friendly portable bathrooms. (Biodegradable solution and toilet paper made from recycle material.)
All registration is electronic. No paper-based registration available.
Providing environmental education & naturalist programming for kids on habitats, recycling, Leave No Trace principles, etc. (Columbia Gorge Ecology Center)
Gorge Games Is an "event powered by 100% renewable (wind) energy." Provided by Pacific Power. All generators run on bio-diesel fuel.

Sounds like fun. I imagine there might be a few Maui folks competing in the kite and wind surfing events.
