End of the Oregon Trail, answer to Where is it Wednesday...somewhere in Oregon City 8/17/11

Not only did John McCarthy get last weeks I know last week's Tualatin Skate Park, answer to Where is it Wednesday...somewhere in Tualatin OR 8/10/11, he added much to the post by mentioning the art project that created the Mural!

Each week I'll be posting a new picture on Wednesday morning. The title of the blog will have the City where the picture is taken and I'll post the answer Wednesday evening...not only here on my blog, but on facebook business page (please click like and add yourself there) as well as tweetin it on my Twitter page.

Do you know where it is? Care to guess? Comments are welcome! I'll post the answer tonight.

Hint: It brought us to where we are today

Answer: It's the End of the Oregon Trail!

Yep, Kat guessed it correctly this week as this is the End of the Oregon Trail Interpretive Center, which sadly has been closed now for a while. The huge metal wagon frames used to be covered, which would have been pretty cool to see. There is still a gift shop and you can walk around reading the boards with history, but guessing this was probably a really cool thing when running fully.

I love a bit of history and find it fascinating how tiny and cramped these wagons were. I complain when I'm in an air conditioned car for too long, so truly can't imagine coming across the country like that..and the woman had to wear SO much clothing too! Those were either some very brave people..or a bit crazy...maybe a bit of both! Either way, those that did endure landed at the end of the Trail in Oregon City in the mid 1800's.

Here are a few pictures of my visit:

What the wagons looked like covered. I didn't take this picture, but pulled it from one of the links above. I did frame it all pretty though :)

White metal sculptureTook this picture from one of the information Panels along the path. It's a picture of the inside of a wagon. Talk about cramped. Imagine a family of four..or more?

When I was heading back to my car, I passed this woman and this adorable young girl who proceeded to say hi and asked me my name. Gotta love kids. She introduced herself as Super Sophia..and she was at that. Cute as a button and hope she always thinks she's super! They were waiting for the free Trolley Ride that goes through Downtown Oregon City. It was a nice day for a trolley ride.
