A Mother’s Day To Remember

Mothers Day 2009, by Karen Cooper wwwquality4loanscomI am so grateful about so many things in my life, but it is on a day like Mother's Day that it comes to the fore how much joy a child can bring. My husband was at a Home Show in Yreka CA near the majestic Mount Shasta on Mother's Day, so I spent some time deliberating over what I could do with our daughter who still lives at home to make Mother's Day special with just the two of us. Should we hang around the house and play Wii? Putter around the garden? Nah...when I have some time, I like to get out and about this beautiful area where we live! We can play Guitar Hero anytime, and the cultivating has waited this long, it can wait a while longer.

Do we head to the coast? On a warmer day, maybe.Howard Prairie Lake Marina Ashland Oregon May 2009 by Karen Cooper wwwquality4loanscom

Go to Howard Prairie Lake? Did that Saturday.

Hike Roxy Ann or Table Rocks? Hmmmm...another time.

Decisions....Decisions...

Wait a minute! By George, I think I've got it! We were the high bidders on a snow shoe rental package at Rogue Valley Community Development Corp.'s Silent Auction last fall. Snow shoeing in Southern Oregon in May, Karen, you might ask? Sure! Although our climate here in the Rogue Valley in Southern Oregon makes for pretty mild seasons, there are many micro-climates here.

Crater Lake National Park May 2009 by Karen Cooper wwwquality4loanscom Southern OregonSo, off to Crater Lake we go, where there is PLENTY of snow to go snow shoeing on in mid-May. Crater Lake averages 45 feet of snow each year, and still has over 7 feet right now. It's only a 90 minute drive from Medford where we live, and through some gorgeous countryside, including the Rogue Siskiyou National Forest. And oh what a beautiful day it was! A balmy 52 degrees when we arrived, and a lovely sunny day to tromp around the rim of Crater Lake. The summer crowds are not yet out, and it always amazes me how few cars we see on the roads touring the countryside around us. Not like Southern California, where we moved from in 2004!

On our way back, from Crater Lake, we love to stop at Beckie's Café. We'll pull in to the many scenic spots on the Rogue River and walk out along the many trails to see the sights. There is so much to explore here! My baby and I had a wonderful time together on Mother's Day. This young lady is such a joy to spend time with, lively and entertaining. She made my day!

See you out there!
