One of my favorite places in Central Oregon is Salt Creek Falls - Salt Creek Falls is located on Hwy 58 on the east side of the tunnel for those of you familiar with the road.
Salt Creek falls has been a family tradition for myself and my kids for years. I can remember when you parked along side the road and hiked down to the base of the falls. We would stop on the way home and hike down, pack a picnic and enjoy the view - it is not a long hike but it is fairly steep.
In the winter the kids were always disappointed that we could not get to the falls. About 10 years ago the State made this beautiful area a rest stop and State Park - My kids were thrilled, because although we could not get to the bottom of the falls in the winter we could get to the top of them.
So, this week as my daughter and I were just spending some quality time together as mom and a grandma with 2 joyful little boys we headed to the bottom of the falls. It is amazing how much easier it is to get to the bottom compared to getting climbing back to the top.
Enjoy this beautiful day with us.

Thesa, Salt Creek Falls is absolutely beautiful! You did such a wonderful job I want to come back to Oregon to vacation again.
Wow...now that was beautiful and something to behold. Thanks for sharing your beautiful scenery with us!
Oh wow! That waterfall is breath-taking. That is something I wish I could see in person. But Florida is flat as a pancake!
Thesa, now I know Sally isn't the only one living in paradise. Oregon is simply beautiful!!
Gosh that is beautiful and so close to you. Nothing like that here in Michigan.
Nice waterfalls...I could use a good swim under them falls:)
Thesa - What a spectacular view, looks like fun activity and the type of place to spend quality time with the family. Thanks for sharing.
Thesa,
What an absolutely beautiful area. My aunt & uncle moved to Newport, Oregon 2 years ago and they are always talking about how beautiful Oregon is. I am going to visit, I just have to work into my schedule. Are you close to Newport? My uncle is the town manager there.
Thesa,
One of my favorite things here on Active-Rain is the sharing of the beautiful sights and views from around our country. I've never been to Oregon, it seems astounding in its beauty though.
Thesa,
Now thats was absolutely beautiful! Sounds like a great way to spend the afternoon with the family, and a good work out too! Thanks :)

Thesa - I live in the plains - nothing but flat and love your beautiful photos. I think is my favorite and enjoying the day with your family here - good for you!
Hi Thesa, it was a fun day, I know! It always is when grandkids are involved. No fall color yet? We are almost at peak right now. I wish it lasted a little longer.
Thesa...
The Falls are gorgeous. A curious cat could get in trouble wanting to see what's behind all that water :)
TLW...ROAR!
Thesa, thank you for sharing the picture and the video. I have only been to Salt Creek Falls in the winter to play in the snow. I would love to get over there soon with my sweetie, who grew up in Oakridge. What a special place!
That really is a beautiful. I see how you love it so much... We really enjoy the great outdoors and some mountains when on vacation because there sure aren't any to speak of this far South!
Thesa,
What a beautiful waterfall! It is great that this natural wonder has been protected as a State Park. Hope you enjoyed your day.
