What’s Oregon got to do with Texas?

W ell for starters, FRIENDSHIP. You see, I have made some wonderful friends on Active Rain, and several of them are from (living in) Texas. These are people who always comment on my blogs, always compliment and encourage me, and always write great blogs themselves. They make me smile, peak my interest, and give me a connection to a state that I have not yet had the pleasure of visiting.

It is not surprising that these Texans are so friendly and supportive, since the Texas State Motto is simply, "Friendship". They exemplify friendship in every way.

My friend, Candy Henthorn , from Spring, Texas, must have a Bridget Blog Pager on her hip because she is most often the first person to comment on my blogs within minutes of them being posted!

Candy is very passionate about sharing community events. Here are some of Candy's recent posts:

Houston Freedom Fest

Houston Nutcracker Market

Art Event to Benefit Cancer Society

So, what about MEME!

I loved reading Candy's MeMe and was honored when she MeMe'd me (about the same time another Candy did the same thing) I promise you two Sweet Candys, I WILL complete and post my MEME soon!

Another great friend on Active Rain is Karen Anne Stone from the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Karen Anne used to be a teacher and famously implores her readers to look within themselves AND contemplate questions that she posits. Karen Anne once asked me to compare and contrast Eugene and Portland, Oregon and argue why to visit Eugene over Portland. I felt like I was back in college! Karen Anne, I'm going to keep you waiting a little bit longer...I haven't noticed a slump in the housing market at all...I've been so busy working lately and haven't had time to write that persuasive essay just yet.

Some of Karen Anne's recent posts are:

Moving During The School Year...Why Its a Good Thing!

Karen Anne...Go Pick Up Your Grandmother...

A Unique Way to Practice Blogging... Try Being A Journal-ist...

Jason Crouch, representing the Austin area, is another AR friend who's blogs I enjoy reading and who I can count on commenting on my blogs.

Jason is a family man who enjoys music and music videos and writes entertaining blogs that I always seem to relate to. Some of his recent posts are:

He Just Smiled and Gave Me a Vegemite Sandwich

Do You Believe in Love? Summer of 1984

Mythbusting Our Industry - Myth #1 - "Real Estate Agents and Brokers are Greedy"

The Oregon State Motto is, "She Flies With Her Own Wings" which is a pretty good description of me...

So here is my Tribute to Texans whose state motto is "Friendship"

Y'all are so kind and I'm so glad to know you! Thank you for your friendship :) :) :)

I think I'd fit in, in Texas quite nicely!

Hey Bridget! We have friends and venue in common. I love my Loveseat (Jason Crouch) and I love Eugene! I'm in Portland and we do fly with our own wings! If you ever make it up to Pdx, give me a call! I'd love to meet you :-)

Bridget - My Bat pager went off and I knew that you had written a new post.  How did you even find the "pink" picture?  That's cool.  I appreciate you including me.  By the way, you would definitely fit in here in Texas.  Thanks for the shoutout - much appreciated!  By the way, this may be an odd question - how tall are you?  You seem tall to me.

Bridget and Jennifer - I have multiple friends in Oregon.  Maybe I should write about you guys.  I offered to interview Jennifer already.  By the way, Bridget, if we are going to be friends, you have to give me a nickname.  Everyone else seems to.

Jennifer! I was in Pdx a couple of weeks ago for the whole week for the CIPS Institute (blog on this to come). I met some wonderful agents from Portland. I look forward to meeting you the next time I'm there! I should be there more and more, as I now sit on the Advisory Board for the International Business Council, sponsored by Oregon Association of REALTORS® (blog on this to come also!). Call me anytime you are in Eugene :)

Jason, holy smokes Batman, you saw my Bat Signal! BTW I'm LMAO at your question about my height! I'm 5'2"! No....just kidding, I actually am pretty tall (especially because you will probably never catch me in flats ;)

I just happened to see the title of this blog and it peaked my interest.....not that I'm a "native" Texan (Floridian by birth) but adopted Texan since 2001 I have to agree, Texas is a friendly place! texas state flag Howdy from Plano,TX!

Jason, I'll keep the nickname thing in mind. I almost made a comment about your pinchably cute cheeks, but refrained...until now, obviously. ha ha

Howdy, Karen! Thanks for stopping by :) Love the flag.

Bridget - I like the fact that you evaded the questions about your height and about the pink picture.  No big deal - just curious.  My wife is very tall, but she wears heels anyway.  In fact, she claims that was one of the reasons she liked me (because I make her feel like a "petite flower", jokingly of course).

Jason, about the pink picture, I actually wrote this blog about a week ago and saved your picture then (apparently it was pink?) I thought you made it pink for Breast Cancer Awareness Month...I couldn't sleep one morning and was blogging at 3 a.m. and the blog was much more extensive and involved the first time, but RIGHT before I posted it, my computer froze up and I LOST THE BLOG! I didn't remember how to save it as a draft as I was going along and just completely lost the whole beautiful thing...made me cry! At least NOW I know how to save it as a draft!!! I'm 5'5" without shoes on but always wear heels so sometimes I appear to be up to 5'9" :)

I figured that you had saved the photo previously - it was for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, but I changed it on Halloween night late, so I wondered how you found it since it hadn't been online for about 10 days.  Sorry to hear about your lost blog - that is a very bad feeling (been there a couple of times myself).  Yesterday, I was working on a post and I had written several paragraphs, then the power cord was kicked out of my notebook and the battery wasn't in it.  Lovely.  I won't tell you how tall I am, but I guess in heels I would be about 6'8" based on what you said about yours. ;-)

Jason, I'm sorry to hear about your post yesterday. It's truly heart-wrenching as far as I'm concerned! That is part of the reason that I just could not even post for a few days. I was really upset because I spent so much time working on it while I was already sleep-deprived, all for nought. But I just keep getting busier and busier too with some of the things I mentioned above. YAY! Yeah, I guess your picture isn't pink anymore, I think I'll switch it out for the new one. 6'8" in heels...wow that'd be quite a sight!!!

(11/10/07 09:51PM) — Mike Jones

Thanks for introducing us to your friends, Bridget!  I had family in Eugene, Oregon, and attended Gresham Union High School back in the dark ages!

Mike in Tucson

Mike, it's a small world, isn't it! I love hearing that people have ties to Eugene and Oregon!

I don't wear heels often, so I am normally just 6'4".  Actually, I only wore heels once as a joke in high school.  I think it would take a lot of training to walk in those things.  Thanks for switching the picture.  It really doesn't matter to me.

Bridget - My bat signal went out for some reason, those darn power surges.  lol   Thanks for the shout out and right back at you girlfriend.  I am looking forward to getting back to Oregon for vacation and do lunch!

There's my Candy! How are you?? I love your Localism posts. You rock. I hope that all of the fundraisers and events going on in your area are doing very well!

Thank you Bridget!  I do them for you! I know you like to know what we are up to in H-town.  lol

Jason, just switched the picture. I got so used to seeing all of the pink pictures, I didn't even notice that it was pink! I like the regular one though. I don't even know what to say about the heels in high school...LOL

Thanks for switching it.  I like seeing my natural skin tone, I suppose.  I also got used to all of those pictures last month.  There is nothing that you can say about high school thing.  I shouldn't have said anything either, but I am very open, as you can probably tell already.  Just try to wipe it from your mind.  I guess that's kind of like telling someone, "Whatever you do, DON'T think about a purple elephant."

Jason, I was just kidding. The picture I had in my mind was of the "Powder Puff" football cheerleaders when I was in high school...a bunch of guys that dressed up like girls while the girls played football. Fun times!

I played football in high school and I think it was for a pep rally.  I also got a chance to dress as our headmaster (not principal, since it was private school) with the gut and mustache.  He said later that it was a kind portrayal of him, and that I was nice not to use more padding for the stomach area.

Bridget, if you don't knock it off right now, I'm going to be jealous! I see my Loveseat is stepping out on me.... am I just not tall enough??

[just kidding Bridget! Sort of...

MWA!!

Bridget - I can personally testify to the people of Texas - I spend 2 weeks a year in Texas - and the people always amaze me - this time I had the privilege to meet - Marchel Peterson and Chris Tesch - wow it was a blast - but you are so right - Texas ActiveRainer's are GREAT

Bridget - I was so buried into the Week in Review this past week, I missed this great post. Don't you just love Jason!! You are very talented yourself there miss cowgirl!! Love the picture, I need one of those hats...I used to have a Stetson and Bailey way back when!! Fun link love here on your post, looks like I have missed a few. Bookmarked for good reading, thank you!

Wow - I went away for a day and came back to find the Loveseat Admiration Society!

Bridget - Loveseat is a nickname that stemmed from someone wanting to call me "Couch" (not Crouch).  I decided I liked "loveseat" better.

Jennifer - Thanks for caring enough to be humorously jealous.  How tall are you, anyway?  I demand to know everyone's height!  I am, of course, joking.

Candi - Thanks for the unsolicited plug, and with two exclamation points!  What a good friend.  Don't tell Jennifer.  I think she is secretly stalking me.

Jennifer, I got your last comment on my phone when I was out with my girlfriends later in the evening, it cracked me up.

Thesa, you're so lucky. I'm glad you were able to meet some AR members while you were recently in Texas. Have you blogged about it yet, sister? Your blog is next on my list of stops :)

Candace, thank you, your week in review turned out quite nicely. Great job, lots of good reading in there. Cowboy hats are fun, aren't they. Mine's not authentic like your Stetson & Bailey though.

Jason, I have to admit that when I first saw you on AR I thought you might be the football player because I couldn't remember if his name was Couch or Crouch! I don't know if I'll be able to come up with a nickname for you until I meet you in person! I'm glad you explained the origin of "Loveseat" I was completely perplexed!

I thought it would be a good idea to explain that one.  It was somewhat self-imposed - better than Couch, right?

BRIDGET:  The cowgirl look suits you.  I know that you're going to come to NY soon.  Hopefully we can add NY to your friends list!  I've found Texas to be very friendly as well.

Jason, considering your height, I think you're closer in size to a couch than a loveseat ;). Maybe I'm just going to call you Couch...

Adam, thanks, the NY look suits me very well too. I think I'm known as the fashion diva around here...I've been dressing in all of my posh clothes lately to try out my look for the to trip to NYC. I'm going to call you right now to chat. I am so excited about going to NY!!! The New York state motto is "Excelsior" (ever upward). How exciting! This is the motto for my career :)

I guess that's true.  I can't even lie down on a loveseat very easily, which is why I have one in my office.  I don't want anyone else in there sleeping while I am out.

Hi Bridget:  I am just getting around to reading your post.  Things have been a little crazy on my end.  I had a bad bout with bronchitis that went into bronchial pneumonia, and then my daughter Robin's 16 year old Shih Tzu puppy almost died last week.  I wrote a post about my daughter Robin and her puppy, and the response was unbelievable.

Anyway... what a nice surprise to find that you included me in your post.  And, I think you picked three of my favorite posts to feature.  You are such a sweetheart.  Thank you so much... I appreciate you, too.  And... is that really you in that cowgirl hat ?  You look fantastic.  And yes, I think you would fit in here in Texas quite nicely.  Thanks again...
