While trying to write blogs about my local area, well all of Oregon in general I guess I wrote a blog “Portland Group Reaches Out” which was about an organization called Transitional Youth and their founder Bert Waugh Jr. They are an amazing organization that helps homeless youth with basic needs whether it be education, guidance, a place to stay along with much more.
Earlier today I received an email from their Executive Director, Gary Gorsuch to thank me for writing the blog and sharing it with my network. It was a simple email that was very touching. I appreciated Gary acknowledging me trying to help spread the word about their program but it also shows that Active Rain and the web can do work great together. Bert Waugh III found the blog and forwarded it to Gary. Hopefully others will find the blog and it will help spread the message for Transitional Youth.
Gary also sent me an email to show me the video about Bert, who recently won the 2007 Good Neighbor Award for his efforts with Transitional Youth. Please click the link to read the article about Bert and Transitional Youth.
They are also having a seasonal celebration benefit for local homeless youth on November 28th, 2007 at 7pm at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall and tickets are available at Ticketmaster.

Rick, sound like a great work and cause, and I am sure that they appreciate you honoring their request and posting the blog.
Rick - how cool is that? I love it when we find out someone read our stuff and actually took the time to let you know... well you know someone other than our fellow AR groupies. Great job you Duck fan you... how are the video games going?
George,
It sounds like they do and I always appreciate the acknowledgment. I never really expected them to get their hands on the blog but I thought it was pretty cool that they did.
Thesa,
hahaha...the video games are great. My little stepson is sitting next to me as I type playing Halo right now :-) I think my fingers are getting cramped and I'm going to need to take a break from typing and jump on and take the controller from him! but yes, the emails I got actually made my day.
It is a great feeling to get recognition when you are trying to help spread the word about something. That is very thoughtful that they took the time to send you a thanks.
Hi Rick,
This sounds like a good and worthy cause and getting the word out is very important for these organizations as funds are usually limited.
Hi Rick-
Great job on getting the word out, and nice knowing the Active Rain was able to get it out where more people could view it!
Bridget,
I was quite appreciative for them emailing me
Cynthia,
It is definitely a worthy cause and any publicity I can help them with is worth it!
Alecia,
thank you and yes I was quite pleased to see that because of AR the blog is getting out there.
It is wonderful to hear about another great cause. Thanks for taking the time to get the info out to us, Rick. Glad the non-profit acknowledged your effort! It is good to get that feedback.
I love to see people using their business blogs to spread the word about other causes. I can't imagine being homeless anytime, let alone as a child or teen.
