"Big Brother" Makes An Appearance Outside Philadelphia Pa ~ 26 Years Late!

The actions by a school in Lower Merion School District outside Philadelphia Pa, should alert everyone of the danger that lurks in your computer.

• The school issued computers to students. They were equipped with webcams. They also contained a remote monitoring software. This allowed access to the computer, which the student had in their possession, at any time school officials wished.

Allegations of watching students undress and other activities have been waged against the school. Lawsuit filed in Case. Federal prosecutors have gotten involved in the case. ABC News Article.

• Some time back I expressed my concern about computers with built in Webcams. Here is a prime example of what can happen. Besides the webcam you have no idea what software is preloaded on your computer which might allow remote access.

It is not that far reaching to consider, a government intent on monitoring and ease dropping on private citizens could enlist this type of technology to do so stealthy. Each computer has a unique address and is easy to track and document.

When you purchase the computer your identity is attached to the unit by virtue of the sales document and/or your credit/debit card.

It's unconstitutional you say?

• First you have to find out it has been done.

• Then you have to find who is responsible.

• Then you have to file a lawsuit and wade through the time and mire of an expensive trial.

• You might have to wait through the appellate procedure up to the Supreme Court before you get it stopped.

• In the meantime this could go on undetected or unchecked for years.

What safeguard is there to protect unscrupulous people from tapping into the same technology? Today computers are hacked. Financial information and identities stolen. What will prevent the next level of personal invasion?

• Your family squabble could be the next "most viewed" UTube sensation.

George Orwell may have had his dates a little screwed up. This technology did not come to pass in 1984, but it is rapidly approaching us now. Perhaps he meant 2014 as the date Big Brother would control every aspect of your life.
