How will you Remember 9/11? Hanover, Pa

How will you Remember 9/11?

It’s been a crazy week, still adjusting to the “back to school” schedule, my baby girl turned 15 and we’ve experienced some really crazy weather leading up to and including this past week. Everything from an earthquake to torrential rains which lead to flooding in some areas.

Being aware of the 10th anniversary of 9/11 and never forgetting for any length of time since then, the shock and fear that infamous day brought to me and all of America. I’ve wondered how I could honor them, the 3,000 who perished. I’ve thought of them, lifted up prayers and yet the only thing that seems like enough and yet nowhere near enough is to Remember 9/11. To share the memories with my children.

My husband, Chris, and I headed to the store after dinner for party supplies for our daughters birthday gathering. We were talking and catching up, we hadn’t seen much of each other this past week, when we came upon this amazing sight. Bright lights shining on a field of flags, I knew immediately what it was, a Healing Field ®.

The conversation came to an abrupt halt. He pulled the car over and we began to wonder, as if drawn to them, through the rows of flags. We read the memorial cards and went from one to the next. Eventually we returned to the task at hand. I only wished I had my camera. It was a site to see.

In Hanover, Pa, just a few miles from my home a Healing Field ® was created. Three thousand, 3’ X 5’ American flags stand 8’ tall in perfect rows. Each flag has a yellow ribbon and a brief bio of an individual who was taken from us that tragic day. It’s a living memorial and patriotic tribute to show the strength, unity and honor of Americans.

The Exchange Club of Hanover invites everyone to “come and go as you please. Walk through the awe inspiring display.....read the memorial cards and learn something about the people who lost their lives that day.”

When Chris & I returned home we told the kids about what we had seen. We want the kids to see it too. A few hours later I couldn’t get it off my mind, how amazing and how I wanted to take pictures and read more cards, so Mike and I went back to take some pictures so I could share them with you.

If you have the opportunity to see it for yourself it’s located at the West Manheim Elementry School 2000 Baltimore Pike in Hanover, Pa. For all the details and special events visit HealingField.org

Thanks for taking the time to read my blog. Now you know how I will Remember 9/11. How will you?
