Situated on over 4.5 square miles, The Hideout has something for everyone!
The Hideout is a 2,700 acre community with six lakes and ponds. The largest lake in The Hideout is Lake Roamingwood, which is 225 acres and allows up to 90 hp motorboats. 250 acres of land in The Hideout has been set aside as a natural preserve.
The 2800 homes are attractive and usually very well maintained. A variety of styles, sizes, and exterior choices give a feeling of individuality, rather than "cookie cutter" houses lined up in neat little rows.
Its convenient central location is another "plus" for living in The Hideout. Roughly ten minutes or less from Hamlin , residents can choose from two grocery stores, visit a public library, a pharmacy, convenience stores, service stations, diners, and other local businesses. The Comfort Inn is only a short distance away, making it easy for out of town guests to visit.
Honesdale, fifteen minutes away, offers a large variety of shopping opportunities, including Kmart, Walmart, Home Depot, movies, another public library, more restaurants, a full service hospital and other medical facilities.
Also nearby is Hawley (and Lake Wallenpaupack), with more places to shop and dine, antique shops, library, etc. The main gate of The Hideout is approximately ten minutes from I-84. Nearby Scranton offers even more shopping, medical, dining, and entertainment. (Personally, I love going to the Cinemark!)
Activities, clubs, and recreation opportunities abound in The Hideout:
| -24 Hour Security | -Indoor/Outdoor Tennis |
| -Gated Entrance | -Powerboat Lake |
| -Public Utilities | -Two Sandy Beaches |
| -Central Water / Sewer | -Two Heated Pools |
| -Paved Roads | -Fitness Center |
| -Clubhouse & Lodge | -Craft Center |
| -Campgrounds | -Wood Craft Building |

Drinking water in The Hideout is obtained from five different wells located within the community. More information about the water quality can be found here.
In addition to the yearly association dues (of approximately $1,200) and sewar and water charges, there are amenity fees to take into consideration when considering what it will cost to live in The Hideout. The various amenity fees are outlined here. (pdf file, requires Adobe Acrobat Reader.) Fees and dues are subject to change and should be used as a guideline only.
Housing is affordable in The Hideout; there are many options available ranging from modest chalets and ranch homes to more upscale retreats. There truly is something for everyone!

The area really looks beautiful from the aerial. There is nothing like Lake living!
Hi Danny - yes, this area truly is spectacular - especially in the fall. But spring is pretty nice too. ;)
Updated the blog by adding some more local links and information.
Karen: I did not realize your area had so many lakes. This looks like a great community. I agree with Danny there is nothing like lake living.
Hey Karen,
Always wondered about The Hideout. Was in there maybe three times throughout my real estate career in the past 4 years but never really got to know it until I read your article.
