Orwigsburg Community Heritage Day was held on Sept. 10. 2011 after a one year hiatus. The weather was outstanding, no rain for the last 5 years we held the event. It was estimated that 3000+ attended the day. There were 42 vendors and Eva Katherine, Orwigsburg's own, had more than 300 attend her show. She is a 12 year old country singer and is really talented as she has performed in 55 shows in 33 different venues in 5 states. Sterling Koch, a nationally known lap steel guitarist appeared. He is also a touring and recording solo artist. The Breaker Boys also appeared at 113 West Market Street and provided Early American music all day long. The Pet Parade was the first annual with 33 entrants and was a big smash with all. Kindermusik had a Zoo Train demo for the did. Once again Clara Barton was reenacted by Maureen Costello. Culture Shock MaluLani Dancers performed traditional dances from the islands of Hawaii, Tahiti, Samoa, New Zealand and the Philippines. The OBPA next monthly meeting is October 6, 2011 at Seton Manor at 7:30AM. The agenda will include discussion on the formation of a 501(c)3, the review of our purpose and mission statements.

Friday, Oct. 21 and Saturday, Oct. 22 will be the "Haunted Island" from 7 p.m.-10 p.m. A family-fun pumpkin patch will be held on the island including hayrides and games. Food and drinks available all weekend. Nov. 27 - Open House, Christmas Parade will be held. Times TBA. The Christmas Tree lighting will follow at 5 p.m. Dec. 10 - Holly "Rose" Trail from 1:30 p.m.-5:00 p.m. In memory of "Rev. Rose Hoffman" the trail will begin at the Church of the Nazarene, W. Main St., Schuylkill Haven tour decorated residences and end with a social at the First UCC social hall, Rt. 61S, Schuylkill Haven.
