PAT ROBERTSON, HAITI AND THE DEVIL.

Last week Pat Robertson found himself in some hot water again. Not unusual for Pat. The main stream media picked it up and even Fox tried to ram some holes in his ship. In case you missed it, I posted a clip of what Pat stated shortly after the horrific earthquake in Haiti. I must admit at first I thought Pat may have gone a little south at best and a bit insensitive at worst. And I do believe and have seen first hand just what Blessings and curses are all about. (Derek Prince wrote the essential read on the subject and I highly recommend it.)

So knowing how Pat is no stranger to controversy in the secular world, I didn't really think much about his words. I have been to Haiti and also attended a huge gathering in Santa Domingo, Dominican Republic that attracted a great many Haitian people as well. So I'm not totally removed or naive about the island or it's people. I also know a childhood friend who has lived there for more than 25 years. This past Sunday, while visiting MorningStar Fellowship in Fort Mill, SC, they had a Haitian man speak about what's happening and what he's been hearing from friends and family. He mentioned Pat Robertson and what he said. He pleaded with us to not judge or dismiss Pat and his words. He claimed as a native that what Pat spoke was the absolute truth and that anyone who had ever attended school in Haiti was taught about the pact with Satan made in the early 1800's in exchange for their freedom from France. It is truth and everyone in Haiti knows about it. Not only that, but he went on to say that it was widely known that President Jean-Bertrand Aristide called for a renewal of the original pact of 1804 after returning from the 1st coup and exile of 1991 to help Haiti to flourish.

I first found this a bit surreal as I had heard CNN report that 80% of Haiti was Roman Catholic. He then addressed that very issue. He told us that Catholicism in Haiti is not like what we know it to be here or in the rest of the world. In Haiti it is mixed with voodoo and several other black arts religions from their long creole past. It is widely accepted in the church that countries that don't serve God and don't have the Blessings from the covenant of Abraham are usually among the poorest in the world. The spirit of poverty seems to always loom large over countries not serving God.

In my opinion, Pat is not being insensitive, nor is he wrong. He is just stating truth which is hard for some people to hear. He also went on to say this may be the best possible time for Haiti and may help them to come to the Lord in a huge way. The harvest is many, the workers are few. Please keep praying for this beautiful country and it's beautiful people who can rise above it all and emerge as a Blessed country.
