The senate failed to pass an amendment that would have extended the deadline for first time home buyers to settle on their homes and still receive the tax credit. The amendment was added to another bill that was not very popular with republican senators. The current tax credit deadline is June 30th. The National Association of Realtors estimates that about 180,000 first time home buyers will miss out on the tax credit because their loans would not be able to close on time. Today the US House voted in favor of a bill that would extend the credit deadline. The bill in the house stands alone, which should make it a no brainer when it heads to the senate for a vote.
