The kids and I have decided it was time to get another cat. Having had no luck in the past getting a friendly cat, Max decided that since I picked our family's first cat and Mike picked our second cat, both of which had personality disorders, he should get to pick the next family pet.
I am a lifelong cat person who, in mid-life, got my first dog. I am now a nauseating dog owner who bores people senseless with dog stories and gushes over how much I love the little fella. But I did miss having a cat. Max and I have been going over to the SPCA for a few weeks now and on Saturday, we popped over there to see if they had any kittens.
They had two. A boy and a girl. Brother and sister. We had our heart set on a little boy cat this time and sadly, there was a woman ahead of us, who was going to take the little boy for her granddaughter. She had to go home to get her dog's vaccination papers and was scheduled to come back the same day. After she left, the folks at the shelter allowed us to take the two kittens out and play with them. They told us that we could take the little boy if we wanted, as they didn't know if the woman would be back. I didn't feel right about that and I wasn't sure I wanted a little girl cat, so as hard as it was, Max and I left and decided to sleep on our decision.
I couldn't stop thinking about how much fun it would be to take them both. I had two boys, who both loved cats and I had my beloved little dog JJ. Wouldn't it be so much fun to have two little black and white kitties in the house? I mentioned it to my son Mike, but not to Max, because I wanted to be able to change my mind. But I decided, that if they were both still there the next day, I would adopt them both.
Max, Mike and I went together and there they were! The woman had never come back! I quickly let them know I wanted them both, and when the paperwork was done, and I, along with one of the volunteers were crying happy tears, we left with these two new additions to the Mangigian household!
We can't agree on names yet. I like Romeo and Juliet, Chip and Dale, Scootch and Bella. As a joke we told Jack, a died in the wool Republican, that we were naming them Bill and Hillary! I still kind of like that idea!
Max wants to name this little cutie Bloodbath. I let him know there was no way, I, who does all the Vet visits, was going to be sitting in a waiting room while the nurse calls out that it's time to see Bloodbath! Mike wants to name him Gregory Bartholomew something, something, the third. It's so long I can't remember it.
Here's our little girl. I would like to call her Bella. It's still up in the air.
Here, Godzilla is destroying my Christmas village!
JJ does not know what to make of this turn of events!
You all might remember that Jack is not the animal lover we all are. He came home and was somewhat surprised to find two more cats that he really wanted under his roof! He came around quickly and first thing this morning, he wanted to know where Chip and Dale were!
Many thanks to the Chester County SPCA for their help. If you are looking for a pet, there are many lovely cats and dogs for adoption here.
