Quakertown School District will be closing Haycock Elementary at the end of this school year. They district has been trying to do for many years and the school was on the chopping block last year and the board kept it open one more year. They expressed the cost to repair the school would be too much and there was really isn't room to expand if needed. The parents and children are really upset of course.
The full story can be found through The Intelligencer
Haycock is a rural area and there isn't any large housing development. There isn't a big turn over in resales in the area and very few new construction homes. Most of the township is state gamelands for Lake Nockamixon and county owned park, Lake Towhee. This has reflect the school enrollment in the area. There are many people that do not have children who live at home anymore. The 3 nearest elementary schools are not that far away. The 3 schools are Richland, Neidig, & Quakertown Elementary.
Visit the Quakertown Community School District Site to view the area schools.
Farewell to the my old elementary school. I met some of my best friends there that I still have :) The memories of those days were pretty good and stress free.
The area is still a beautiful place to live. If you are searching for in the Quakertown Area contact in Marcie Purcell 215-534-2539 and Linda Tremblay 215-534-2369
