Applebachsville History

Haycock Township was created in 1762. The Township received its name from Haycock Mountain which resembles a series of hay cocks (hay raked into piles prior to being loaded on wagons.)

Applebachsville is was known as the Stoke's Tract or Stoke's Meadow from 1735-1837. After owning the land for over 100 years, the Stokes Family sold the 377 Acre tract to George Dutch, New York Sea Captain. The Captain built a large mansion on the tract in the hopes that a life of clean country living would reform his son's drunken habits. The Captain's plan was unsuccessful since 5 years later in 1847 after his son received the property from his dad he sold it to Paul and Henry Applebachs. The tract was then developed into about 30 Homes that now The Village of Applebachsville.

The Houses are well maintained and present a great historical feel to the community.
