Effective January 1, 2009, the IRC Bulders Code will require SPRINKLER SYSTEMS to be installed in all homes built to code in the United States. This regulation will be the law and all Centre County Builders will be required to follow this law as of the new year.

You need to act today to save thousands of dollars on the building of your new home. Simply have your building permit issued prior to December 31, 2008 and there will be no need to pay the additional costs of the sprinkler systems. If you fail to act you will have an increased price on your new home which may impact the financing or amenities of the home you choose to build.
Update as of 10/02/2008 - The NAHM will be filing an action to prevent the new code from adding the sprinkler systems. They expect to lose in the long run but the NAHB thinks it will take two to three years before the ordinance is enacted after they file the petition to prevent the sprinkler systems.
There will be more to come on this issue.

Your argument is fundamentally flawed, as the model code that contains the requirement (IRC 2009 edition) will not go into effect until 2011. Furthermore, your state or community will have to adopt the code for it to become a requirement.
Hi Maria,
I guess I will need to check my facts. I really don't have a dog in the fight so I wasn't arguing for or against the new code law. I host a show on the radio every week and the information came from an interview with the interim President of the State Assn of Homebuilders. Maybe you are more informed than he is. I will verify the facts and tell you if that is so.
A fact I did NOT include in the post is the disgust the Homebuilders feel in the way the vote was handled. The firefighters unions got together and sent bus loads of people to the meeting in Minnesota to tilt the vote in favor of the sprinkler systems (my son is a firefighter but was not involved).
Thanks for checking in Maria.
