I've traveled the World, yet I've never seen any place like Charleston, SC. If you've watched "Gone With The Wind" (and who hasn't?), you will feel like you fell back in time to that era and THAT place.
The gentility of the South is never more apparent than in Charleston: cobblestone streets, sprawling Southern mansions adorned by magnolia trees and giant oaks beautifully festooned with Spanish moss.
The winters are mild, the summers are hot and humid and spring is simply enchanting in Charleston.
Horse drawn carriages peacefully co-exist on the roads here with the latest turbo charged vehicles, for no one is in a hurry in Charleston. Drivers give you the right of way and they do it with a smile. Everyone is touched by this easy going atmosphere, even the most stressed out "Yankees"...
What are you waiting for? The Spoleto festival is right around the corner. Come down soon ya'll!
For a great place to stay: my very own favorite hotel, The Charleston Place. For the most amazing, healthiest, tastiest, most nourishing food on the east coast and an easy, playful atmosphere, you absolutely MUST dine at FIG (it stands for "Food Is Good"). Make reservations well ahead of time, for they are booked weeks in advance. For the "In" place to eat, Oak Steakhouse is the finest dining experience in Charleston. All the famous folks dine here when they are in town, and Chef Brett McKee is the culinary master to the stars, flying to the west coast to cook for various top events.
Spirit Air has many specials for flights from New York to Myrtle Beach. Charleston is only an hour and a half away. You really have no excuses. Come visit now; thank me later!

If you knew just how beautiful Spring is in Charleston, you'd come down tomorrow...
Amazing pictures, makes me want to go right now! I had heard that Charleston was one of America's great jewels, now I see that it really is!
Mirela,
I was in your wonderful city last year in May. What an absolutely glorious town. I loved it and can't wait to come back. What history you have. It is truly one of America's Jewels! I could move there tomorrow.
Becky
How beautiful Mirela! I fell in love w/ Charleston while watching Giada DeLaurentis' Weekend Getaways ~ it is an beautiful town w/ amazing restaurants! Hopefully someday I will see it in person!
Nancy, I sure hope so! If you can make it down for the Spoleto Festival, you won't be sorry. If you do make it down, let's meet! We'll have an AR party!
Becky, were you here for the Spoleto festival? Did you partake in the festivities, and how much did you LOVE IT?
Tony and Darcy, thank you! It's hard to imagine just how charming this place is, until you actually see it for yourself. I hop you'll make it down soon!
Sophie, I'm so glad I had the opportunity to introduce you to it! I hope you'll come visit us soon!
I lived in Charleston in the 70's and was wowed by its beauty Wonderful photos, Mirela.
Nice Post M&M. I've never been to Charleston but have always been captivayed by it's reputation for charm & gentility. I love the soft accent and the food. Until I actually get to visit - thanks for taking me there on your blog.
BEAUTIFUL photos!!! Thanks for sharing! I have not been there since I was a kid with my folks!!!! Memoires!
Hello South Carolina. Charleston is my favorite city. We always make a point to go at least once while we are down at our house on Lake Marion. We will be missing our spring trip this year in favor of a trip to Disney World but we will see you again in July.
Nice pictures. I was surprised that the horse drawn carriages co exist with the cars. We have horse drawn buggys downtown in the summer in Idaho. They don't seem to bother people there probably because they are related to a special event going on downtown at the time.
Charleston is one of my favorites. It is so beautiful and such a great place to remember history. Thanks for sharing.
Mirela, it's been years since I've been to Charleston and it's a beautiful city. We took one of the horse drawn carriage tours. I wasn't aware that cruise ships stopped there. I'd love to go back.
Wow! I've never been there, and now I want to move there! Great pictures!
Hi Mirela...Your photos are wonderful. Do you work for Charleston's Tourism division? You make me want to grab my camera [jump in my Prius] and head on down.
Kathleen
GREAT POST! I love Charleston. I am looking forward to going back.
We were suppose to go to Charelston a week ago but could not go. I was so sad! Seeing this post makes me want to go! I will get there! My mother's family is from there and I have heard how beautiful it is. I still have 2 plane tickets so I will get there!
