Through Tuesday, August 11. "Food Inc." Drawing on Eric Schlosser's Fast Food Nation and Michael Pollan's The Omnivore's Dilemma, director Robert Kenner's documentary explores the food industry's detrimental effects on our health and environment. Kenner spotlights the men and women who are working to reform an industry rife with monopolies, questionable interpretations of laws and subsidies, political ties and rising rates of E. coli outbreaks. Friday, August 7. First Friday. Winnsboro is celebrating a THRILLER night of dance this Friday starting at 7:30 pm. The Palmetto Shag Club and the Junior Shaggers will start the party off with dancing at Gazebo Park. This Friday will be a tribute to Michael Jackson, celebrating his music and dance. They are asking you to bring some or all of the following items to be donated at the Harvest Hope Food Bank tent that will be set up at Movies in the Park: Canned meat, Canned vegetables, Canned fruit, Canned soup, Canned ready-to-eat meals, Peanut butter in plastic jars, Rice and/or Dry beans. Friday, August 7. 3rd Annual Five Points School Supply Drive. This Friday, the Five Points Association will once again play host to the Annual Five Points School Supply Drive to benefit Rosewood Elementary, Hand Middle School and the Alston Wilkes Society. From 4 - 8pm, patrons are encouraged to bring school supplies of all kinds to the fountain and in return will receive fantastic rewards from the merchants in the area. Saturday, August 8. Cici's Pizza Presents Back-to-School Bash. Start the school year right with Child Safety. Cici's Pizza at the Village at Sandhills presents child safety experts including the DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) truck and 9-ft. DARE Sheriff, child fingerprinting by the Richland County Sheriff's Department and fire safety and prevention talks by the Columbia Fire Department. Kids can meet the trained police service dogs of the Sheriff's Department K-9 Unit. In addition, Cici's Pizza and other Sandhills merchants will hand out discount coupons throughout the day. Mike Genova Karate will offer demonstrations, and balloon artists and face painters will be on-hand to add to the excitement. Joes from your childhood, they're all here at the Southeastern Toy Soldier Show. See, buy, or trade toy soldiers or other military miniatures from various periods of history and enjoy special museum programs presented during the day. More than 30 exhibitors from across the South will display their collections of toy soldiers, or "military miniatures," in this annual presentation.
