Wow what a night. Lexington South Carolina is usually a quiet little place without much drama. Not last night.
We got home late from a scrimmage ballgame and was getting everyone ready for bed when suddenly I heard a distinct BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR of a freight train. What? Grabbing my children from upstairs we ran to the lower level and took cover. The next 5 seconds was scary! It seemed like 5 minutes.
NO WARNINGS ISSUED. As I have a all weather radio that didn't make a sound.
Official reports say it was a microburst but for those that seen it we know what it was. It was a small funnel cloud (tornado) that hit the ground for maybe 5 seconds. The wind was in excess of 60-70 MPH.
Westbrook and Martins Grove Community in Lexington South Carolina has some major damage and lots of debris all over the place. I have not ventured out yet this morning but I will post pictures as I can. I know there are large trees down and a few roofs that are gone. All within 5 seconds with no warnings. No rain no lightning no nothing!

Good Morning Laura,
Glad you and your children are okay. Hope you don't find much damage when you get outside. With so little time to prepare and no warning, you should be complimented on your quick thinking to get the kids and get to the basement and safety.
Have a happy Fourth of July,
Catherine in NY
It never ceases to amaze me how that life can be rolling merrily along and then in a flash, it changes directions. Sometimes they are defining moments that affect us for a lifetime. Sounds like this one only affected you for a few moments and thank goodness you and loved ones are fine.
You just never know!
Good reminder that our lives can change in a moment. Need to take advantage of every minute that we have.
Laura - I sat at an open house two weekends ago and watched half a dozen of these roll across Smith Valley. It was amazing how quick they pop up!
Laura,
Glad you and your little ones are safe....being from an area that doesn't face the extreme weather you do I doubt I would of been able to react so quickly....
GOOD MORNING LAURA! Very frightening - glad you all are OK! -- Gabrielle
That is pretty scary stuff. Fortunately you have good awareness skills. Roy said it well. Hope you have a safe and Happy 4th
Wow! That is pretty scary....thank goodness you were paying attention. I am glad you and your family is safe....now you have to check your trees and cars.
I just rode the area. Major damage on many homes and looks like my shingles are feathers. Government officials all over the place and insurance adjusters already. I couldnt get pictures of some of the more major damages done.
I think I will love a little deeper today. Thank you lord!
So scary!!! I am glad that you are all safe and nobody got hurt!!!
Laura,
Glad you and your family are allright. Things can be replaced, people can't.

Laura, that is scary that there was no notification. Glad you and your children are fine. Was it dark outside? I can usually tell in MI when the humidity is high and the sky looks weird.
Holy cow. How frightening. How wondrous that you were in the hands of angels and your littles ones were in your hands last nght. We hear of these microbursts, but have never experienced them. Saying a little thank you, Lord, that you are all safe.
Laura, It sounds like you have an emergency routine in place. Congrats! I am glad your family is safe...
So glad you are safe and hope that although there has been major material damage, that no one was hurt. Life is moment to moment! Hugs.
Glad to hear that you and yours are alright Laura. We barely had anything going on over here last night.
I hope everyone is safe and doing better. Please keep us updated as the the rest of the neighborhood.
Laura, Tornados terrify me. It sounds like the tornado funnel must have been right overhead your home to cause damage to the shingles and didn't touch down on your house, because sometimes a tornado can destroy one house and leave the house next door untouched. I like to think that there is some warning in terms of clouds, color of the sky or something. Let us know more as you learn more. I'm so glad to hear your family is safe and you knew what to do. Very scary for you and your family.
Good Morning,
Im glad you and your kids are ok I have never been in that type of situtation before but Im really glad you are fine. Have a great day thank you for sharing and updating us on the news.
Have a wonderful day take care,
Kim White
Laura ---- my goodness --- how frightening --- this surely was a wake up call of how precious life is and how quickly it can change. I am thankful that you and your family are good ---thanks for sharing.
Hi Laura, This sort of thing reminds us of the tremendous power of Mother Nature !
Laura, I have seen the aftermath of powerful tornadoes and they are a devastating force of nature. Glad you all are safe.
Had to come back and say congrats on the feature Laura. I see this also puts you over 200,000 points, another great milestone for you. Take care!
How scary. Iam glad you guys are OK.
Definitely a scary thing to have happen out of the blue! So glad you are all alright.
Scary. People get scared by our Hurricanes, but atleast we get fair warning, usually a week or so. But those tornadoes just come out of nowhere and do so much damage. You were fortunate
What a scary night!! I am so glad that you guys made it home in time to be safely inside and out of harm's way - so to speak. Puts life into a whole new perspective...
Laura, How very frightening for you and your children!!! I'm a midwestern girl by birth, and I know how scary a tornado can be! So glad you're all ok.
I think we will all love a little deeper today, Laura, so thanks for sharing a very scary few moments.
Laura - good for you and your family to be safe. What a reminder - we are so helpless before the power of nature. Wow! Just 5 seconds!
Wow! Who wudda thunk it? It is amazing what the weather will do...

Puts it all in perspective! Glad you and your family is safe and relatively minor damage to your home.
It was at 10:15 or so last night so it was dark. No warning to anyone by NWS. No one was hurt in my neighborhood but a few minor injuries were reported around the immediate area.
Laura, 5 seconds...amazing what can happen in that short period. Glad you and family are OK.
Gives me chills - I'm so glad you and yours are okay~!!!!
Laura, so glad to hear that your scare was not more than that, I hope everything turns out well for your neighbors as well.
Laura, stories like that make us realize the preciousness and fragility of life.
Holy Cow!!! That is so scary! I am so glad that you and your family are safe! Take care and be careful.

Wow! Glad you had no injuries. I've never been in one. They are rare in this area, but one did come through close to my home about 5 years ago and did some major damage.
I would have guessed that Columbia is pretty far east for a tornado. They seem to pop up just about anywhere lately.
Hi Laura, glad you and your family are okay. I thouhgt they came along with bad weather and at least you would know to prepare. i have never seen or experienced one. Hope your neighbors are okay too.
Great post today with a real "heads up".....we should not take things for granted that's for sure. Things can and do change in minute Each day is a gift.

Laura, I'm glad to hear that you and family are OK. Life can change in an instant. The Greater Toronto Area rarely gets tornados.
Initially saw your post and wondered if it had something else to do with the S Carolin news. All the best.
out of the blue, things can change so quickly. Growing up in West Texas, tornado's are prevalent and unpredictable. Good to hear you anf family are safe and well!
Glad everyone is OK. I have seen some strange things... that isn't one of them... and I'm cool keeping it that way.
I'm glad you and your family are okay. Mother Nature can be both awesome and scary. We never get warnings with our large earthquakes.
Oh wow. Glad that you and the kids were safe. We've been having a few of those up here as well this week (but we were warned at least - or maybe you missed the warning while at the game?).
Laura: Good to hear you and your family are OK... Just think if this was 15, 25 or even 45 seconds what damage could have happened.
also, don't ever get blacklist.Once you are blacklist, you say sms bye2 buying a house or properties is NOT possible,That makes you all not investing what you suppose invest.contact Meet the Millionaire Sisters ! now before is too late.your loss is not my gain,my gain is your gain.. Fat loss 4 idiots
Laura, glad to hear you and the neighbors are ok. Mother nature is amazing!
