Climbing Sassafras Mountain in SC for a Great Cause

I happened upon this article about a young man that is planning to climb Sassafras Mountain in an affort to raise money & awareness for Alzheimer's Disease. Mark Zimmer, 23, is planning to climb the highest point in every state as part of his plan. So far he has climbed 7 peaks in his quest to raise money. On October 13th he will begin his climb of Sassafras Mountain, which most of the locals know is the highest point in South Carolina.

This article hit home because I have seen both my father and my deceased grandmother battle Alzheimer's. It is sad to see someone as brilliant as my father become frustrated by this terrible disease.

Anyone who is interested in climbing alongside Zimmer should arrive at the Sassafras Mountain trailhead at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 13.
