I going to vent for a second....What are we doing here in HORRY COUNTY. Our local government can't see the forest from the trees....
We have been fighting and aguring about the expansion of our small local airport. We've spent tens of thousands on studies that we don't even know if we can use....I'm not against airport expansion; However, why are we not building a new airport somwhere away from myrtle beach...with all the new roads we finally recieved fromthe efforts of the local and state governments why not build west of the waterway. I just don't see we couldn't sell the current property to a developement company, which is the highest and best use of the property, and move the operation west of the waterway....
Less congestion, More room for expansion, Low impact on current and future development, Less flying hazards from high rises and ocean winds...Some one tell me what are the drawbacks? I lost here. I am I the only one who see's the problem or am I the only seeing this completely wrong... What other city has an airport that close to the ocean?
Let me know what you locals think?????

I've flown into LAX, it feels like you're going to land right in the water, this is the example I can come up with for you for an airport close to the ocean (water okay for you?) No matter where the airport is, there will be construction... IF it's moved away from the city, the city will move to it.... The only other thought I've got for you is.... the crash in Central America (or was it Brazil? I've forgotten now) where the plane full of passengers went into a office building at the end of the runway... Good Luck!
True....move the airport...and they will follow...but knowing where the current airport is from living there years ago, I would think it would be worth some money to redevelop....but then I can already hear the residents on the other side of the waterway screaming....we don't want no airport over here!!!!
Looking forward to coming back and checking out Myrtle...she's quite a Beach!!!
