York County, SC Council Meeting on January 5, 2009 Dog Chaining Laws

CROSS POST to YORK & Charlotte Friends PLEASE!!!
PLEASE WE DESPERATELY NEED YOU!!!! We had a great turn out the first time, but the last meeting we had 12 people. I think the opposition actually had more. PLEASE this is for BIG CHANGE. We are always cleaning up for IRRESPONSIBLE OWNERS, please help force them to be accountable. In the long run we will be helping thousands of animals from abuse.

The meeting is JAN. 5th, Monday at 6th Congress St. in York at 6:00.

UPDATE:
Likely to pass with support.
1 Animal Control finally having enforcement powers!!! (They can actually write citations, like in Charlotte and most everywhere else!!)
2 Sanitary living conditions will be required for animals, now dogs can sit in piles of feces. We have seen it too many times.
3 Adequate shelter will be better defined, no crates!
4 Animals will also not be allowed to be sold off the street, flea markets and similar places.
5 Sadly, No tethering will not be passed, but rather dogs must be on a 10 ft. chain with a swivel stake to help prevent tangling. This is frustrating, but not the end of this fight. We will revisit the issue in a few months. It will eventually happen and we need the above things to happen in order for them to be able to enforce NO-Tethering. AC has a lot of training and changes that they need to put in place, so when we push for NO-Tethering again they'll be ready!!! We just have to keep chipping away. We are thrilled that they have listened to us and are actually pushing for change!!!!

There are more POSITIVE changes at Animal Control, some examples are screening for adoptions, helping to spay/neuter pets that are picked up and returned for a low cost and more!!

PLEASE COME OUT TO SHOW SUPPORT, SO WE CAN MAKE SURE THE ABOVE PASSES. ALSO, THEY NEED TO SEE THAT WE CARE ABOUT YORK'S ANIMALS.
