County Council Meeting

Well, it seems that the council is going to put stronger laws in place or at the least enforce the ones they have for people that abuse and neglect there pets. People from both sides of the chaining issues were their and speaking at the meeting last night. From what EVERYONE was saying, if you neglect or abuse your pets you should not have them, that is from both sides of the issue.

The county will still allow people to CHAIN their pets but the major change will be empowering animal control officers to issue citations for animal abuse and neglect. Which is the main goal of any of rescue group or anyone that cares about animals...that pet are being properly cared for.

There is a new group called The Committee For Responsible Pet Ownership. Our goal is to educate the public on being loving, responsible, caring pet owners as well as working on getting low cost spay/neuter vouchers for people that need help. I truly feel that anyone on either side of the chaining issue that talks the big talk and saying that they do care about the welfare of those pets that are mistreated and abused would also like to help in this endeavor to protect those animals. We use our OWN money to purchase straw to GIVE to people that have pets in questionable living situations. We take time out of our daily lives to deliver supplies to those people, or help them find homes for an unwanted litter of puppies or kittens and will even pick their pet up and taking it for a spay or neuter when the owner is unable. We even have a member who has spent her time and money helping people build fences so they could remove their dogs off of chains. This is the same person that a group of people were overheard calling evil last night....she spends HER time and HER money to help others and SHE'S evil?

My stand on the chaining issue is I do not chain my dogs. I have 5 dogs with about a half of an acre fenced in and a doggie door. My dogs are trained to go outside to potty and play and inside is were they eat, sleep and spend time with their people. And yes, I do have 3 female that do not get along all of the time, if I am working from home or am home alone I keep the 3 separated . But at no point is anyone ever chained to anything or locked in a small confined area. I love my dogs and do the best I can to give them everything that makes them normal, health dogs.

Instead of being on the defensive maybe we should work together and solve the real problem.

And for the record, it is not okay for a county council member to sit and talk about the people in his district being country folk and not being able to understand how to properly care for their pets therefore they should not be held responsible for abusing their pets. That if they are mistreating or neglecting an animal that law enforcement should not have a right to visit that person and cite them for the abuse! I was born and raised in that district and most of my family still lives in that district and we may be from the country but that does not make us dumb country folk Mr. Chappell! People choose to be who they are, we all get the same chances in life and if there are a few dumb country folk in your district, they choose that life and they have to abide by the same laws as the rest of us sir...stupidity is NOT an excuse!!!!
