Old fashioned networking

I have a group of friends and acquiantances that get together for a meal about twice a month, very informal. It is at one of the people's homes and the host decides who to invite. There is a "core" group and usually the host invites a friend or friends that no one else has met yet. This has grown and is something we all look forward to. Personally, I have found it a great way to meet more of my community and get to know some acquaintances better. It's great to see other people that you know meet new friends too.
For me, this is real social networking.
