I started out the child of a single mother, of modest means in a modest town. We never did starve but we didn’t have much money to throw around either. My mother was in college during a good chunk of my childhood, and my saving grace was my grandpa and grandma who I was with constantly. My mother and I lived in low rent housing and apartments for the majority of my childhood ,but my grandparents had a huge yard for me to play in. We did live in few small rental homes, but there was always a no pets policy so no dog for me. But at my grandparent’s house there was love, and food, and a line chart up the side of the doorway in the kitchen with my growth chart. My grandma was a homemaker and her door was always open to her only grandchild. While we moved around in my hometown my grandparents stayed in the same house for 40 years.

As time went by I grew older and went off to school. I remember one of my favorite classes was Art. My Art teacher, Mrs. Runyan in 5th grade did a unit on architectural styles. I was infatuated by all of the varieties. When I was older did I want to live in a Victorian, or a Georgian, or a Second Empire? It was a lot for me to wrap my head around as I curled up with the book in my bed. It is to this day about the only thing I recall learning in 5th grade. As I grew older my fascination did not dissipate. I remember in middle school taking out a couple of books about architecture from the library. I renewed them twice until I could not renew them anymore and then I conveniently “lost” them under my bed. They cost my mother $150.00 bucks to replace and I still have them today!

As I grew older I vowed one day to get a job where I could go into these beautiful houses. I know it sounds weird but when you haven’t had something it is all that you want! I wanted to go in and look around. I wanted to look at the pictures of families on the walls. I wanted to see the furniture and how the home had been decorated. I wanted to see the open stairways, the wood floors, all of the details. Maybe what I was really looking for was the security that came with the strings of owning a house. The security that a 30-year mortgage gave to a little girl that didn’t want to move around anymore.
So I got older and decided to go into real estate. It seemed like the natural fit. I like houses. I like what they represent. I like people and I love to talk to them. My favorite class in high school was accounting which ties nicely into banking. I constantly have my nose stuck in a book so I love doing continuing ed ucation. All around it’s a good fit. And even though times are hard I am going to stick it out and hang in there because whatever goes down must come up eventually! Please God soon! And when it does.....
Isn't it spectacular!
