Introducing....Pat Summitt!

  • This was a real treat! At the Get Motivated Business Seminar, she was our last speaker of the evening. It was well worth the wait. Dressed in her Orange sweater, always representing the team, Pat Summitt did an awesome job with her training on the big team of players in the Sommet Center Monday evening.

She told us many stories from her family experience with her son, Tyler and her father. Pat showed us her Motherly side and it was just as great as the Coach she is. She spoke of the class that she went to with her, at the time, 2 year old son. The class was to learn how to teach your child great communication. She said they taught how to give a firm hand shake. That she cannot stand the hand that isn't firm when gripped. When you give that handshake, you need to learn eye contact. Everyone wants to have your attention when they are speaking to you. When ever someone is speaking to me, I always have tunnel vision. They are all I see and I let them know they are important to me and have my full attention.

Pat also spoke of the importance of speaking the words "I love you". That her father always showed her his love and attention but he never said it until this one time. He gave her the kiss on the check and said, "Now you can never say that I didn't kiss you or tell you that I love you because I do." Everyone wants to be loved, to feel loved and to hear that you love them. However you were raised, you can break the cycle and start your own by saying I love you. You touch everyone you come in contact with. Love, love, love. But FIRST, in order to love someone, you have to love yourself! I know you have heard it before and it might be hard to do but this was a message that was conveyed by more than one speaker this day. It all starts with YOU!

Here are some tips and pointers that Pat Summit gave:

  • Could you work for YOU? Really ask yourself this question. She did and thought, I don't know! She knows she is a disciplined Coach. So ask yourself that question and do something about it if your answer is no.
  • Always compliment people. You will raise the spirits of that person in that moment and change the direction of their day.
  • What kind of leader are you? Do you speak the truth?
  • Empower people to take ownership
  • Be a great communicator
  • Have a good handshake and eye contact
  • Motivation inspires people to take action
  • Your attitude is powerful - Learn to be patient, it is a daily choice
  • We must remain positive. How we see things should always be in a positive light
  • Your attitude shows how you see things, are you positive?
  • Is your glass half empty or half full?
  • Challenge your children
  • Challenge your co-workers. By challenging you are showing you care about them to do better
  • You have to have passion!
  • What do you want to do today? Her team practices 2 to 3 hours a day and sometimes she will go to practice and ask them, what do you want to do today? Whatever they say, she works on helping them reach the goal for that day.
  • Who has to start your engine? YOU. I won't turn the key but I will help you get where you want to. You have to start your engine to reach your destination.
  • Look at a team like a potluck dinner. Everyone brings their best dish! When you bring your best, your team will be unstoppable.

If you ever have the opportunity to go to a Get Motivated, Go!
