Monterey TN - Monterey Standing Stone Historical Society

MONTEREY TN - MONTEREY STANDING STONE HISTORICAL SOCIETY

Every year the Monterey Standing Stone Historical Society and the town of Monterey, home of the Standing Stone Monument, annually celebrates the rich Native history of the Cumberland Plateau.
On July 30, 2011 at 7 p.m., as a prelude to the October 8, Standing Stone Festival, the Monterey Standing Stone Historical Society will present their second Native American music concert at Monterey High School, 710 E. Commercial Ave., Monterey TN. No where else on the Upper Cumberland is this type of Native concert performed in-doors.
This year's concert "Native Traditions" will be narrated by Robert Redhawk explaining the history, tradition, and tribal heritage of the stories told through the dances performed. Every dance tells a story; ever dancer wears regalia that represent specific dance tradition, and each dance honors Native ancestral history.
