Volunteer in your comunity

This summer has been so much fun for me. I have volunteered in many ways in my small town. I was apart of a teen group at our church called REFUEL. It is a week when the teenagers in our town get together and make a difference in our town.We team them up with one adult leader per group. They do yard work, clean houses, build porches and wheel chair ramps, paint houses, and what ever need to be done at our senior citizens homes. They also spent time at our local nursing homes. One group dressed up as Dolly and Porter and did concerts there. It was a lot of fun This is a great way for them to show the older generation that they care. We have done this for several years now. It has been a great success. We raise the money for supplies and the kids provide the work. It does not cost the senior citizens anything. A lot of them will bake cookies or something like that to show their appreciation. My husband heads this up along with a friend from another town who brings about 20 teenagers in with him as well. We have great games for them at night after they have worked so hard during the day. We played the cheezy old game shows with full sets and even an announcer with a blue suit from the 70's lol. They played lets make a deal one night. Local businesses helped out with some prizes. They won anything from dvd players to a pie in the face. Just depended on the curtain you picked. It is a great way to bring the youth of our town together and also teach them to serve others. We also played the price is right. We even had a big wheel to spin. It was a week of fun and very hard work. I can not wait until next year!
