I just love taking friends and family to the Loveless Cafe when they come to visit! When the weather's nice, it's a beautiful drive. The food is always good and comforting.
The Loveless Cafe andMotel first opened in 1951 by Lon and Annie Loveless. From that first day, they served the fried Chicken and homemade Biscuits that we've all come to know and love. They had picnic tables in the front yard, and travelers, passing by on Highway 100 could stop in for a bite. But it wasn't until the Maynards purchased the property, and the secret recipes for the made-from-scratch biscuits, homemade preserves, fried chicken and country ham, that the cafe really expanded and became a local diner with it's remarkable reputation as a true Nashville Tradition.
Later, the McCabe family bought the business and expanded it some more. They started the "Hams & Jams" mail order business.
Let's travel there.
I always like to go there through Franklin TN. Franklin is about 12 miles South of Nashville.Since I live on the south side, I can either drive straight across and then head south on HWY 100 or I can take the scenic route which is probably only 10 minutes out of the way. I prefer scenic.
Starting at the square, I usually drive through downtown Franklin. Downtown is FULL of fun eclectic shops. You can make a day of shopping and eating very easily. I haven't done it in a while and should probably put it on my short list of things to do! But I digress!
So head down Main Street and turn right at 5 points. It's where the Starbucks sits on the corner.
Then take the next left and you're on Highway 96 headed west.
Go about 5 miles and enjoy the countryside.
Then, out of nowhere, the bridge will appear. It's one of my favorite landmarks!
Take the Natchez Trace Parkway from Franklin on Hwy 96 West to Nashville at Hwy 100 where the Cafe is located just a few feet away. The Natches Trace Parkwayis part of the National Park Service and is considered a National Scenic Byway and an All American Road. The parkway runs 444 miles to Natchez Mississippi and is where the "ancient trail" used to be. The trail was used to transport merchandise from the Mississippi River to Central Tennessee.
It's a beautiful 10 minute drive. That is unless you decide to stop along the way and take in some of the spectacular view!
I plan to go back and retake all of these with the beautiful trees with leaves and in bloom!
So here we find ourselves back at the Loveless for Breakfast or lunch. They're open 7 days a week from 7am to 9pm. They serve the same menu all day long. They don't take reservations so if you go on a Saturday or Sunday plan to wait. There's always a line. But not to worry. You can amuse yourselves in the shops located where the Motel Rooms used to be. There's plenty to look at and Buy. I recommend the Hams and any of the homemade Jams. Blackberry and Peach are my favorites.
Thankfully, when I come here it's during the week and there isn't usually a crowd. I'm really hungry for some homemade biscuits, jam and fried chicken. Let's go on it!

Isn't that cool? :-) I remember driving down the pacific coast and running across a Fool's Rush Inn.........so much in a name .....no? :-)
Wow... That is mad cool. It's like going on vacation at my desk. Awesome! I love eye candy! :-)
Psych! Connie! When I sell enough homes to come to Nashville, I know where we are going! Sounds like SOOOO much fun!
As you know, I had to bail on Charlotte! Bummer! Actually have a big condo auction that weekend that I am taking two buyers to.....keep your fingers crossed!
Connie - Excellent post! I am also a big fan of the Loveless Cafe and the scenic Natchez Trace Parkway.
mmmm fried chicken and biscuits! what an interesting story and name for a motel!
Connie - You're making me crave some of those hot bisciuits with jam and southern fried chicken! You live in such a beautiful area in Tennessee. Nashville has always been a must to visit place someday.
Liz - you have to wonder what people thought when they actually stopped and spent the night there!!
Carolyn - I just took your advice, and was that arm twisting??- and made a travel post.
Thom - I posted this and went to show condos. We might write an offer on one. I had told Elizabeth if I sold something this week that I would go. Wouldn't that be funny! We'll get you up here and we'll go eat biscuits! Yum. :)
Kenneth - The weekend of my wedding (19 years ago) I sent all the out of town guest over there to get them out of my hair for a few hours. They STILL talk about it.
Georgina - I assure you it's delightful. If you don't like that combo, they have an assortment of country ham dishes, fried steak and plenty other things to choose from.
Connie, I have been to all of those places except the loveless cafe. Ok we're going when I get there. Nothing like a Southern breakfast.
I can't wait to go! It sounds like great fun and a wonderful memory in the making!
;)
Connie~
I loved, loved, loved visiting the LOVEless cafe with you via this post. Tell me ..do you now if the owners of the cafe were any relation to the famous singing/writing Loveless Family?
Missy - You're going to love it. I promise!
Betina - It really is best when you can sit back and enjoy it. Then you need a nap. Or you get back on the Trace and find one of the trails to take a long walk on to burn some of the calories you've just consumed. :)
AHH JaneAnne - thank you. I've never heard of any connection between them. With this being Music City, I would think if they were, someone would have already made a big deal about it.
Connie, after this beautiful ride, I got hungry for breakfast myself. See you there!
Connie, Wonderful pictures and localism post. Good luck in the eye candy contest!
Silvia - Hmmm it is that time isn't it! LOL
Barb - Thank you. I enjoyed yours too!
