May 9, 2009 Letter Carriers from Coast to Coast will collect food for local Food Banks!

Next Saturday Mailmen nationwide will be collecting canned and dry goods as they deliver mail along their postal routes. Last year, Mail Carriers collected more than 73 million pounds of non-perishable food. Across the nation, over 10,000 cites, towns in every state participated.
William Young, President of NALC said that this year will be more critical than any other year. “Millions and millions of families are suffering - struggling to make ends meet and put food on the table” All donated food will be distributed to local food banks, shelters and pantries.
Areas that have never had a great need are surprised at the number of families who now line up to get groceries. The Nashville TN Area Second Harvest has had to increase the number of fundraisers to keep up with demand.
THIS IS A NO BRAINER! Saturday hand a plastic bag with some canned or boxed goods on your Mailbox. Your Mailman with thank you and so will the area Food Banks!
