As a REALTOR® , I am very often asked "What Is So Special About East Tennessee?" There are so many great areas to live in East Tennessee - each rich with beauty and traditions - that the choices are many! But why exactly do such a large number of people choose this area as their permanent, second or retirement home? That‘s not an easy question to answer in few words, so that I have decided to do a series of blogs highlighting each area and it's special magic!
To begin this series, let me introduce you to Blount County - home to many truly amazing cities and town including Alcoa, Friendsville, Louisville, Maryville (the largest), Rockford, Townsend and Walland. All have very unique characteristics and speak to the heart of people differently. First, a bit of history.
Blount county was founded in 1795 and named in honor of William Blount (1749-1800), member of the Continental Congress, governor of the Territory South of the River Ohio (later Tennessee River), founder of Knoxville, U.S. senator, and speaker of the state senate. If you take the time to read the Blount County Quick Facts from the U.S. Census bureau, you will find many interesting statistical facts about the county.
What you will not glean from those "dry facts", however, are all the special things that residents get to enjoy every day. So Stay Tuned as I take you on a wonderful journey of the Magic that is Blount County...
