Early this week Realtor Magazine Online published an article, "Fannie Adds Incentive to Avoid Foreclosure." I found myself chiding a Realtor who published the link to a Facebook page with a comment describing the plan as a step to helping homeowners keep their homes.
Deed in lieu of foreclosure and short sales do NOT help homeowners keep their homes. They are NOT home retention solutions!
It is shocking to me that a Realtor does not understand this distinction in 2010.

Sadder yet is marketing to distressed homeowners with a focus on short sales and nary an eye to home retention.
I saw a Facebook notice giving kudos to a Realtor who recently obtained a Facebook URL http://Facebook.com/AvoidForeclosure. A click on that link arrives at a Welcome page with a photo of a forlorn homeowner, presumably stressed and facing the prospect of losing her home.
This is about short sales. A partner link reveals attorneys specializing in short sales. There is nary a link to HUD Certified Counselors.
Sad. Very, very sad!
