One for the Record Books

Well, I can no longer use one of my favorite selling points-- when people ask me to be sure that the properties they look at have a basement, so they can hunker down during the tornadoes, up to this point I have been able to say that "A tornado has never touched down in Sevier County"... and I was right! But on April 27th just a little one (70 mph, 40 ft. wide) made a brief stop in Seymour, breaking the record that had stood since the beginning of recording of such things.

The thing is, with mountain property, "grade level" is where you walk in the front door-- but because homes are most often built into the slope of the mountain, you go downstairs to the "basement" but it's usally a walkout that just feels like the lower story, complete with windows, doors, patio etc. Not the dark substantial northern-type basement where grandma kept the washing machine and the canned goods!
