The Brazos River was called the "Rio de los Brazos de Dios" by early Spanish explorers, which can be translated as "The Arms of God," according to Handbook of Texas.

What a wonderful rich heritage we have here in the Brazos Valley! The early Spanish explorers knew that river was very special when they first laid eyes on it!
