This Week in Amarillo, TX

Amarillo is also a community where your voice can be heard loud and clear by city leaders. There will be many important public meetings this week where you can voice your opinions on what’s going on around Amarillo and its surrounding communities.

Monday’s Public Meetings

Potter County Commissioners Court at 9am in the commissioners Courtroom of the Santa Fe Building at 900 Polk St. There will be a report on the restoration of the historic courthouse located at 500 South Filmore Street.

The Amarillo Library Advisory Board will meet at 4pm in the Southwest Branch Library at 6801 SW 45th Avenue. The discussion topic will be the Texas State Library Strategic Plan and new Amarillo library programs.

The Canyon City Commission meeting will begin at 5:30pm in the Commission Chambers of Canyon City Hall at 301 16th Street. Commissioners will take action on whether to accept a federal emergency management agency assistance grant to Firefighters for the purchase of a ladder truck.

Highland Park Independent School District will meet at 5:30pm in the High School Library building at 15300 E Amarillo Blvd. The district will host a parent meeting for middle school and 9th grade parents to discuss the new Texas State Assessment of Academic Readiness.

River Road LSD is having a meeting at 6pm at Willow Vista Intermediate School on Pavillard Drive. There will be an open consideration for contract renewals for administrators to approve a maximum class size waiver request.

The Canyon LSD will meet at 7pm in the central administration office at 3301 North 23rd Street. The board will present up update on the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness and considering approving a resolution to appoint a records management officer. Consideration of contract renewals for administrators will also be on the table at this meeting.

The Amarillo City Commission meets at 3pm in the Commission Chamber of Amarillo City Hall at 509 SE Seventh Avenue. Commissioners will consider the 1st reading of an ordinance that would set restrictions for sex offenders residing within the city. There will be a public work session at 1:30pm in room 303. Topics will include a proposal for a drainage utility for the city.

Tuesday’s Public Meetings

Randall County Commissioners Court starts at 9am in the Commissioners’ Courtroom of the Randall County Finance Building at 501 16th St. Commissioners will take action on a resolution to support a proposed community to be built in Randall County, Texas.

Amarillo Parks and Recreation Commission will hold a meeting at 1:30pm in room 306 of Amarillo City Hall at 509 SE Seventh Ave. There will be an update on the project of the Amarillo Zoo Education Center.

Thursday’s Public Meetings

Amarillo Construction Advisory and Appeals Board will meet at 3pm on the third floor of Amarillo City Hall at 509 SE Seventh Ave. There will be a continued discussion of significant changes to the 2009 and 2012 international building codes.

Bushland ISD is having a meeting at 6:30pm in the Middle School Cafeteria at 2300 Wells St. The district will present a summary of a demographic study outlining expected growth within the district. There will also be an open discussion about critical needs for the district.
