Alot of people don't realize that Austin, TX has a Zoo....creatively called The Austin Zoo. This small but capable zoo has really grown in the last few years and thankfully so. The staff has worked on the expansion of cages, areas, animals and its perception.
The Austin Zoo is located off of US 290 near the Y of Hwy 71. There is alot to see and enjoy - there are two lion cubs born in Feb. 2009, 500 pound pig named Babe, bears, sheep and many other animals who were unwanted. In addition to being a regular Zoo, it is also a sanctuary where exotic and domestic animals come when they have nowhere else to go. It originally began in 1990 and was called the Good Day Ranch, but due to popularity, it grew into the Zoo.
When coming or living in Austin, add it to your to do list. They need our support.
