Jay Whitchurch and Nathan Green co-founded the MadeinAustin website to help job seekers find work as programmers/developers, engineers, digital designers and technology analysts.
Austin is known for being a blooming tech town but hasn't figured out how to retain the young talent that could keep the tech industry thriving. In 2009 the Austin Chamber of Commerce reported approximately 70% of Austin-area students with training in engineering and other tech related fields want to stay in Austin after graduating however only 30% can find local employment!
Jay and Nathan saw an opportunity to help recent graduates from area schools connect with local tech companies through MadeinAustin.org. The site was just launched in November 2011 and catalogs full-time, entry-level positions as well as internships open at local start ups and fast growing tech companies.
Many start up companies do not have an HR person so MadeinAustin can help fill that role by giving companies direct access to students. Brilliant idea...it's a win/win for students matching them to local companies they otherwise would not hear anything about! Austin is an entrepreneurial city and this is just another good example.
Beyond the website, MadeinAustin's founders are committing to host two job fairs each year. Tuesday, November 29th is the first scheduled free job fair from 6-8pm. It will be held at the AT&T Executive Education and Conference Center on the UT campus. The goal is to let students have face time with Austin area's fastest growing tech companies who are hiring or recruiting for spring and summer internships. Job seekers can go online to register and find more information at: www.madeinAustin.org.
