It's not a bird or a plane, but it could save the lives of those in the smaller communities outside of Austin.
St. David's has a brand new helipad.
"What it means, is when we bring a patient to them, they'll have almost immediate access," Dave Wuertz a flight nurse said.
A heart patient has a limited amount of time when they have a heart attack and Wuertz said that "time is muscle."
"The shorter the time frame from when the person loses the blood supply to their heart, to the time when they get into the [hospital], the better they are," he said.
And with the introduction of St. David's new helipad, emergency services hope to provide more and better medical assistance.
The new helipad isn't the only new digs scheduled to open. A new 377,000-square-foot women's facility is scheduled to open in April of next year.
