Floodplain Maps in Austin take effect September '08

Thinking about all the floods that are going on up in Wisconsin, Iowa and other states we here in Texas have to think about flooding in our area as well.

Starting September 26th, 2008 Floodplain maps become effective. That means that if you are now considered in a floodplain you will have to let you mortgage company know and this means you may have to pay flood insurance.

There are also going to be an equal number of homes leaving the floodplain so you may want to check to see if you can drop your flood insurance.

If you find yourself in a new flood plain you can purchase insurance 45 days before the effective date and save money on your insurance coverage. The date to do this by is August 11th, 2008.

To see if you are in or going out of a floodplain check out the city of Austin's website at www.cityofaustin.org/watershed.
