I will be teaching a class on "Social Media 101" in February

As part of my ongoing effort to push myself outside of my comfort zone, I will be teaching a class on "Social Media 101" at Gracy Title's Spicewood Springs office on February 18th from 2-3pm. I arranged for an SEO class to be taught just before mine by Ben Finklea, CEO of Volacci Search Marketing. (I stole the header above from my friend's email invite for the event.)

The cost to attend will be $25 for one class, or $35 for both. If things go well, I may work toward getting a class approved for MCE credit (perhaps "Online Real Estate Marketing" or something similar). Since my company is already MCE-approved to teach courses on short sales, adding another class shouldn't be that difficult to achieve.

Ben and I have also discussed the possibility of hosting a full-day seminar on social media and SEO, although that is still in the formative stages.

Since the audience at Gracy Title will primarily be made up of other local Realtors, I will focus on ActiveRain as a primary blogging platform, and we will discuss Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn. I don't think I will have time to cover more than that, and depending on how it goes, we may expand it to two hours for future classes. I intend to give plenty of tips on blogging and building an online audience during my presentation. Also, I hope to keep it interesting!

My good friend, Allison Craig, is a marketing rep for Gracy Title, and she thinks that this will lead to additional teaching opportunities once the other reps at her company find out about it.

I have recently been asked to host a roundtable for another local title company, although that is not on the calendar as of yet.

If you had told me a couple of years ago that I would be known locally as a social media "expert" and sought after to teach this subject, I'm not sure that I would have believed you. In fact, if you mentioned social media to me back then, I am not certain that I would have understood the term! I look forward to getting started down this new and exciting path, and I am open to the opportunities that come my way.

A few weeks ago, I was even nominated in the Texas Social Media Awards, which is being hosted by the Austin American-Statesman! If you would like to leave a comment there to support me, they are taking all comments into consideration: http://budurl.com/jasoncrouch.

If you are interested in attending either or both of these classes, please RSVP to Allison Craig - allison@gracytitle.com or 512-423-9419.

Congrats on the Nomination! And you'll have so much fun doing the seminar!

Jason,

I'm sure you'll enjoy the experience!!! Represent us well!!! :) Thanks,   Fran

Hi Jason!  I was scrolling down through your last couple of posts that I have missed and thought that I'd leave a general comment here!  First, I'm headed to the 'budurl...' site to give my two cents worth about you!  Second, you're holding 'class' and not a 'webinar'?!  More exposure, more business!!  Think about it!  Lastly, congrats on your nomination--WELL deserved!  I'm expecting to see that big Texas star post very soon when they announce the winners!

Debe in Charlotte

Jason - you know, I just might drive down to Austin to attend. If not this class, then perhaps another - you're a great guy to learn from! Congrats on all the recent accolades.

LIZ - I am very excited about it.  Should be a bunch of fun!

FRAN - Will do!

DEBE - I have had a handful of webinars, and I am planning for more of them soon!

KIM - Come on down!

Jason, congratulations and thanks for all your help when it come to Activerain.  I love reading your posts!

Jason my friend...

You have released several more clones I see :).  I need about 1/10 of your energy right now, but I'm working on it, took Rhett for a walk today.

Hey what did you think of the pictures I found to be your younger clones, not bad huh?

Congratulations on all of your accomplishments and I'm sure you are a great teacher as well.  That is one of the things I enjoy doing the most now too.  Love Ya, Liz

Well ... may I ask just how many hats you have in your closet?  You sure seem to wear a lot of different ones.  :)

Great to see your involvement in spreading the word.  And I just know in my heart that you are a masterful teacher.  You're a natural.  ;)

Hi Jason, I'd love to be there. Actually, I enjoy all of the social media work that I do so much that I prefer it to many things, and would love to find someone who wanted to do the client contact so I'd have more time for blogging, S.M., etc.

Jason,

Great news! I will definietly see about getting to this class, I'm sure you are a great teacher!! Congratulations!! Looking forward to seeing you grab the Statesman award.

Can you film this and put it up on YouTube or Viddler later. I live in New Orleans and Austin is a bit far to travel for the class but I would love to hear the information.

Jason, they couldn't have picked a better person to teach this class.  I'm sure it will go well.  I'm getting into the teaching gig around here too this year.

Jason, good for you a great choice, it is important to see how Realtors are using social media. I am teaching on it this month at Womans council of Realtors and in March at a KW office. Lots of opportunities. Glad your charging as it makes it more valuable to the folks that come. Let us know how it goes. You were an excellent choice to teach this class.

My friend I will be looking for a good report on this class.  I am hoping that you will have a packed house.

Good luck with the Social Media class teaching Jason. Sounds like a blast event to put together.

Jason, wish I was going to be in Austin and look forward to an online class.  Amazing how when we do what we love it expands and helps others as well.  You rock!

( 02/01/09 09:53AM ) — Greg Nino Houston Texas

Jason - where will this all take you? :)

GREG - That is the question of the day, huh?  As I mentioned, this is something that I have decided to do in order to push myself outside of my comfort zone (same with my radio show, etc.).  Time will tell, but I am open to the opportunities presented!

Jason, this is a great idea.

Jason, If it wasn't so far away I would make the event as I am confident you are the expert.

Good luck with the class.  I always enjoy speaking at these sort of events.  You are an expert.  Just share what you know and good things will follow.

Congrats on the nomination too.

Sounds like a great class and should be much fun.  Let us know if you ever take the class to Dallas

Richard - I would gladly bring the class (or a longer, more in-depth version) to Dallas if you want to help me set it up!

Jason - I am in scheduling phase with a title company to do a similar class - FREE one at least for now. It may turn out to be a series of classes. I already asked about getting approval for CE, but apparently at least currently it is very difficult to get CE for social media and blogging???!!!! ~Rita

RITA - I don't think it will be as difficult here, although I guess it depends on what you call it.  I have done enough free classes via webinar already, so I decided to charge a little bit for this one, mainly to make sure we can people who are sincerely interested in the topic!

( 02/01/09 03:28PM ) — Jeremy Blanton ActiveRain Corp.

Jason, I can tell you right now, your 1 hour time will fly by!   All the ones I did were 2 hrs long and that still wasn't enough time!

Maybe one day you can come here also I would love to attend one. Thanks Jason for all you share with us.

Charles - I will probably be teaching more webinars this year, so keep an eye out for that!  You can just learn from your home or office that way.

Hi jason -- I left a comment and I wish you the best of luck.  You certainly deserve to win!

Joan - I really appreciate that.  I don't know what my actual chances are, but it's fun to compete!

Jason- Congrats on your decision to move out of your comfort zone. I think that as much of a ham as you are in blogging and on radio that you will just eat this venue up too and be well on your way teaching more classes. ( I mean this in a good way- because I am a ham for being in front of audiences:))

Jason - I voted for you!  Hope you win.  Thanks for all the information you have provided and help you have given!

Mary

Hi Jason, I wish I was in your area. I would surely attend. Great job to you for stepping out of your comfort zone to do something new.  I wish you the best.

Isn't it great that every day brings new possibilities that you never would have imagined?  I try to explain this to my daughter who's trying to decide what she wants to do when she grows up.....whenever that is.  I tell her to try things, because the might lead to other things, that lead to something that really gets you excited.

Best of luck with the class, sounds like you will have a lot of fun with it.

Jason I hope your seminar is a smashing success. I bet it will be a lot of fun.

Oh....if I only lived in Austin I would definitely take your class!  I'm afraid Maine is too much of a commute! I'll have to settle for trying to help you win a much deserved award!  Good Luck!

Get Smart....teehee!  Sorry I couldn't resist!  And you know I'm only kidding!  You are awesome at this social media stuff and are a perfect person to teach it.  I'm glad you're getting outside of your comfort zone a little, that's how we grow!  Good luck!
