City Council Meetings....Better Than Reality TV !

Tonight my wife and I attended the City Council meeting at city hall in Bryan, Texas. I have attended council meetings in neighboring College Station, but it has been a while since I attended one in Bryan.

If you would rather do something more enlightening than watching television or playing video games after your day ends ...then take in a city council meeting . They are better than reality TV...believe me.

Here are just a few of the items that came up on tonight's agenda:

1. The council was one hour late to the regular meeting because they couldn't get out of an executive session. One of the items I am sure they were addressing in executive meeting is the fate of the police chief. Lots of individuals where in the lobby with signs in favor of keeping him on and several community leaders spoke to the council on his behalf.

2. An animal rights person was upset over some proposed issues that affect animals.

3. A land owner-developer was requesting annexation. He is ready to get his subdivision going.

4. Another developer was submitting for a zoning modification in order to do a subdivision for smaller homes.

5. Another individual had a grievance about sewer lines.

6. Another developer, a non-profit was seeking some assistance if possible from the city.

7. THE BEST PART! A policeman received an award for saving a baby by giving it CPR after drowning. Very heart warming and a few wet eyes in the crowd.

It is always interesting to observe the individual council members body language at these public meetings. If you have never attended a local council meeting, then make a date to .

Haver a great week!

The arguements are usually petty, and many of the complaints are just as bad.  I find most small town politicians have their own agenda!

Hi Trey,

Good for you, staying involved in what's happening in your own back yard. As for reality TV, you bet, our local meetings are broadcast on our local channel. Rarely a dull moment.

William

Some do...and some actually care. :)

Lynda

That is right about the TV broadcast...I forgot ours are too.

Hi Trey... I would rather watch Dallas City Council meetings than Reality TV.  At least the City Council Meetings really are "Real".

Aaaa yes! Comedy, Drama, Intrigue, Ssuspense, Plotting, Conniving, Back-stabbing, Greed, Bigotry, Politicking, Stupidity, and on rare occasional insight!

All exposed and lied about once a week. Been their done that. All would be hilariously funny if it were a situation comedy.

Trey - small town life at its best. Local politics, not the universal impact of what goes on in D.C. but stuff that might have a bigger impact on your life. Looks like #7 made it worth while. Isn't that what they put on labels of Jack Daniels

Steve

I guess they are about as "real" as it gets and some of the players are acting like "actors"

William

Good idea for a sitcom!

Mike

#7 did make it worthwhile!

City Council and School Board, doesn't get any more grassroots than that!  Everyone should attend at least one of each of these meetings to see what is going on in their town and in their schools.  When election time comes around, you will have a clue who stands for what....

I have attended some that would singe your hair with the tempers flying... gave up that entertainment!

Howdy there Trey

You sure are right about City Council meetings sure can be better than TV at times. We don't have a local TV station, so ours are not broadcast.

I sure would like to see more folks in our area show up for the meetings.

God Bless America

Cheryl

You are right...you really get to see what they are made of.

Trey - Interesting - yes!  Better than reality tv - absolutely!  Understanding what folks are made out of - without a doubt:-)
