A 9,000 year lease has a birthday.....

Happy Birthday to you,

Happy Birthday to you,

Happy 250th birthday to the 9,000 year Guinness Brewery lease.

Happy Birthday to you!

Guinness St. James Gate

This year marks the 250th year since Arthur Guinness signed the now famous 9,000 year lease for £45 a year for the 4 acre property where the St. James's Gate Brewery in Dublin, Ireland is located.

To mark the occasion Guinness produced a limited time "Guinness 250 Anniversary Draught" which has been available here is April 24th.

And in true Irish style a new Irish holiday has been created called "Arthur's Day" for September 24th. At 5.59pm, Irish time, the celebration will begin with everyone (legally old enough to drink, that is) being encouraged to have a pint of Guinness Stout. The 24 hr celebration will begin in Ireland and travel the world with every nation joining the festivities at 5.59pm their local time. What a global party.

Lovely Day for a Guinness

So Slainte to all my fellow Irish and hats off to Arthur Guinness who made the lease agreement of well, the 90 centuries!

I wonder if he'll get his security deposit back when the lease is up? We only have 8,750 years to wait to find out.

Hmmm!
