Conroe Independent School District is planning a special salute to veterans on Nov. 11 at 9:30 a.m. at the brand new Woodforest Bank Stadium!
Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps students from several CISD schools will be participating in the event. More than 300 cadets are expected to participate, as will The Woodlands High School band and choir. There will be many volunteers from the community helping out with the event as well.
In addition to the students, veterans and members of the armed forces are being invited to the salute. It will also be attended by Senta Kosters, mother of The Woodlands resident Corey Kosters who died while serving in Iraq. Corey Kosters died March 5, 2007 in Samarra, Iraq, from an improvised explosive device.
More than 300 veterans and other guests have been invited to the event, and any veteran or other community member is welcome to attend. An Apache helicopter from the First Battalion, 158th Aviation Regiment of the U.S. Army Reserve is planned to fly over during the ceremony.
The salute will feature the Army JROTC unit from Conroe High School, the Air Force JROTC unit from Oak Ridge High School, the Navy JROTC unit from Caney Creek High School, TWHS' JROTC unit and the Aldine High School Air Force JROTC unit.
My son Cameron is a freshman at The Woodlands High School and is a cadet in the JROTC. The benefits these young people gain from this outstanding organization are wonderful! I hope that many people will come out and salute our veterans and what they have done for our country!
