After reading a couple of great posts from Dinah Lee Griffey on Active Rain about the education she is receiving from her teenage daughter, I thought I would share some "special" experiences I have had with my son over the years.
Keep in mind I am actually enjoying myself when all of the things described happen.
My son and I play online games on Xbox and have for years. When he was away at college it was basically the only way we could communicate. If you have a teenage son, you understand this. If you don't, you will have no clue and there is no way anyone could explain it to you, trust me.
Now for the fun stuff. Back when Halo on Xbox was all the rage, I would log on with about 15 of my son's closet psychotic friends and play. Well let me tell you!!! They absolutely loved this old fart. If they were all online and I wasn't, my son would call me and "request" I join them. Why, you ask? My name quickly became "BAIT". I was so clueless and bad they would use me as bait to pull out the opposing team and then, waste em! If I was playing they never lost to anyone, ever. I have been blown up, cut up, shot up, run over and anything else you could imagine. I have heard things online that would curl your hair and burn your ears. But hey, I was one of the guys.
What happens in the game stays in the game.
I learned more during those years than I could ever tell you. If you get the chance to bond with your child in this way I highly recommend it with all my heart.
My son is now married to a great young lady. He writes screen plays and is a golf pro. So now I have to cheat like hell to even beat him at golf. Not really, I "let" him win.
Thank you, Dinah for a great Idea.
