It is starting to feel a lot like summer here in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Temperatures already continue to surpass the 90˚ mark and nearly hit the 100˚ mark with a high of 99˚. Yes it gets very hot in the Metroplex and we enjoy complaining about the scorching heat, but despite all the hot weather we endure every summer great reasons exist as to why we stay. I would like to spend some time here to remind/refresh you of why we should continue to love the DFW area. Perhaps this information will help you endure the dog days of summer a bit easier!
Despite common notions, there is more to Dallas than football. Big D- as well its sister to the west -Fort Worth, have much to offer- from sports, shopping, dining, arts to employment and urban housing. The Dallas-Fort Worth area is booming! Since 1995, the population increased 30% to today's figure of 5.9 million. This influx is not expected to slow down! By 2020, the number may reach 7.5 million. At 385 square miles, there's plenty of room to grow Dallas outward.
DFW is a mecca for sports entertainment with professional sports teams in football, basketball, baseball, hockey and soccer. Additionally, we have the Texas Motor Speedway and Lone Star Park. If you are not a sports enthusiast, you can enjoy the over 30 museums that are in the DFW area. Maybe you're like me and love food. According to Texas Restaurant Association, the Dallas area boasts more than 6,000 restaurants!! Also according to Zagat the #1 restaurant in the U.S., The French Room is right here in Dallas at the Adolphus Hotel. Don't forget Texas is known for our Tex-Mex. Time after time when I speak with people that have spent any length of time out of Texas, they say they could not wait to return home to eat their Tex-Mex! According to Pace Foods, Dallas residents consume the most picante sauce in the nation! So if food is not your passion but you love shopping then Dallas certainly will not let you down. Dallas has more shopping centers per capita than any other major U.S. city! Perhaps you are a fan of hospitality and enjoy a quick weekend getaway from the homestead....well Metropolitan Dallas has more hotels than New York City! The Dallas/Fort Worth Area has two of the top 10 ranked hotels in America and the only U.S. hotel ranked in the top 10 of the world. Additionally, it might surprise you that Texas ranks second behind California as a pleasure travel destination for U.S. residents.
Finally, if sports, dining, shopping etc. do not convince you of how great the Dallas/Fort Worth area is to live then let me speak to your financial side with a few housing facts. Despite the national slow down in real estate sales of new and pre-owned properties and a high foreclosure rate; the North Texas market remains one of the country's strongest. The Dallas/Fort Worth Area is ranked as the #1 growth market in the U.S. The DFW area (and Houston) rank as the "most affordable" housing markets of the 20 largest U.S. cities. Texas leads the U.S. in job growth and as you know job growth is the most important market driver in creating housing demand. DFW ranks as the #2 job growth market in the U.S.
Still not convinced that Dallas is a great city to live? Well, then head to the pool this summer and pour yourself a frozen margarita from your frozen margarita machine (which by the way was invented in Dallas) and simply relax and know that in the end we still have our Cowboys. Sorry, who said Dallas is not known for its football??
