I have a great drive to my office. I live next to Lee Park on Turtle Creek in Dallas and take Turtle Creek Boulevard to get to work. The park is one of the nicer “urban” parks I know of, featuring the beautifully restored Arlington Hall and nicely landscaped grounds, and today it featured a few unusual and fun additions:
What were these inflated characters doing in the park? They are there promoting TxDOT’s “Click It or Ticket” Campaign. This campaign is federally funded and promotes the use of seat belts. According to the program coordinator I met while taking the pictures, this has been a highly successful program and is credited with having raised the rate of seat belt usage from 75% to 92%! When you think about that number and the number of saved lives, this is quite remarkable…
And when you drive by the park and see a giant bull with a sign that says “Steer Clear of Tickets”, a giant Elvis that says “Buckle Me Tender”, or a giant Godzilla that says “Avoid a Monster Fine”… well that’s just plain fun!

The inflatable characters will be in Dallas’ Lee Park until 10:00 tomorrow morning and will be lit up tonight. Be sure to stop by and see them! For more information about TxDOT’s “Click It or Ticket” campaign, visit the TxDOT website at www.txdot.gov/safety/clickit.htm.
