Elgin Texas is in the northern part of Bastrop County and is about 26 miles east of Austin on Highway 290. Elgin is well known for it's spicy sausage as well as it's brick mfg. businesses. It is also quite popular as a "bedroom" community to Austin offering an easy commute, and less congestion than city living with it's rural residential properties and farms and ranches. One of the best equine vets in Central Texas is located in Elgin and the area is very popular for horse enthusiasts.
