Another Great Texas Courthouse

I just love old county courthouses. They have great charm. This handsome building is located on the town square in the heart of Franklin, Texas and is the Robertson County Courthouse. It was built in 1883 and is in the Second Empire Style. It is made of Austin llimestone and is listed on the National register. Franklin, Texas is located on Hwy 79 , and the area is currently experiencing a natural gas boom, which has been a terrific boost to the economy of a sparsely populated, but beautiful county . It is a short drive to the cities of Hearne , and Bryan-College Station , Texas .

Trey, you are such the Robertson County expert. I love Texas county courthouses. Another beauty you have there in Franklin.

Hi Trey, One of our granddaughters collects replicas of Texas county court houses but I don't think she has this one yet.

Hi Trey!
That is one beautiful building!  Sacramento refurbished the old City Hall and then built a new addition to it behind it.  Here is a link...it is really quite special as it honors the old and shows that the new can work with it! http://www.fentressarchitects.com/sacto.htm .
Oh...I found a better photo of our city hall...

Hi Trey... Texas County Courthouses are some of the most wonderfully interesting architecture!  I always keep an eye open for them when traveling our fair state.... and until I saw Shirley's response I had no idea that they were collectible!

Oh Trey,

Thank you for sharing the beauty of this building. I love-em all, it reminds me of our history. It's like a step back in time, so un-like in my area. I would hope that younger people would feel a similar appreciation.

Trey:  There really something great about an old, well done building.  There was not the standard design types we see now.  Heck, half the time, before a building is complete, you can tell what it's going to be.  Things were much more unique in the older buildings.

Trey - Are you sure that's a Texas courthouse?  If so, it's missing the hangin' tree in the front:-)

Howdy there Trey

You sure do let us see some real fine looken Texas Couthouse's. Older buildings, sure are a joy to look at, my friend.

God Bless America

I tell you...I would like to see all 250 of them in Texas ...but it would take a while!

Shirley

How interesting. Where does she get them?

Paula

Your city hall sure looks like a beauty also.  They are supposed to be resatoring the courthouse in this blog.

Steve

I sometimes go out of the way to see them.

Lynda

I too hope their generation cares enough to keep up this part of our heritage.

Chris Ann

You are so right.  Whenever we travel I take binoculars and look at the details on the very tops of old buildings....stuff only the birds can see!

Myrl

I bet there are a few old Hangin' trees around in California and Texas!

Dale

They really are a beautiful part of Americana!

Trey when I retire Ceil and I are going to hook up the RV and take pictures of old courthouses and then we also want to do the same with old lighthouse photo's. Ummm wonder if I'll ever get to retire?

Carl

Sure you will ....you will be forced to work so hard you will have to physically stop working before you collapse! :)

Hey, Trey.

There's a great little book called "Texas Courthouses" that I think was published by the Texas A&M University Press. I used to have it; still might in this mess I call home -- LOL.
