Located on Hwy 79 in Franklin , Texas .....the old Carnegie Library certainly is reminiscent of days gone by in small towns across the USA. This library was built in 1913 and is still serving as a library after all those years. Of 31 Carnegie Libraries built in Texas...only 5 still serve as libraries and this is one of them. The basement of the building however has served in the past as classrooms for elementary students, a dressing room for sports teams from the local high school, and domicile for the superintendent of schools.

I love the Carnegie Libraries! We have them all over Colorado too, but as in Texas, not many being used as libraries anymore. I did live in one small town, where it was, but mostly museums, and satelite school locations. Can't think of where Franklin is? I thought I knew Texas pretty well, having lived all over that state as well, but you have posted about a few places lately that I don't recognize!

Franklin is noth of Bryan-College Station in central Texas, in the triangle beteween Austin, Houston and Dallas. I grew up going to the old Carrnegie library in Bryan Texas not far from Franklin, and can remember Saturday mornings when my mom dropped me off . They had programs for young children and reading clubs for the summer. Fond memories... :o)
Trey, Some of my greatest memories were spent in libraries while growing up in Georgia, it was an escape and I am still a avid reader...so much to read and so little time! Thank you for the post!
Trey: That's a neat looking building. The windows are the first thing that caught my attention. They look happy.
Howdy there Trey

We all need to pick up more books. I was actually thinking of joining this old library. Remember Library Cards?

Me too.....I had seeing them get run down and wasted. They are great to look at and use!
I think the Carnegie Library in Cherokee Iowa looked a lot like that to my third grader eyes. I spent a lot of wonderful hours in old libraries.
