The city of Hearne is known as the Sunflower Capitol of Texas. And it isn't difficult to figure out why... if you just take a ride on a nice sunny day. I don't know for sure how many varieties of sunflowers there are , but the Hearne area seems to have a number of varieties. It is a known fact that if you want some to appear, just plow up some ground and they will do just that. They come up voluntarily in our flower beds and we like to leave a few of them for color.

Great photo Trey. Even driving out of one of our local WalMarts one day I saw a field of sunflowers so you are right, the seeds must just keep churning over in the dirt and they spring back up this time of year.
Ah, yes, the ol' wild sunflower. My first college roommates at Texas A&M were from Hearne and Waller. The first time I went to visit them on their ranch, all I saw were sunflowers. I remarked on all the beautiful sunflowers and they thought I was crazy think that all those weeds were pretty. LOL
Well what is it that they said, somebodys weeds are somebody else flowers or it somebodys flowers are weeds to others. Nice picture Trey.

Trey what a beautiful happy picture! Sunflowers make me happy....thanks for the smile you gave me today!
Trey - I have always heard where you have sunflowers you have birds. If you see a sunflower field means good dove hunting.

How's it going? Sunflowers grow just about anywhere.

I think some weeds are attractive. One man's ceiling is another's floor. :)

You are welcome! I really enjoy photgraphing plants.
Hi Trey... GREAT Photo. I like sunflowers in nature. I think that they are bright and cheerful flowers.
Wow! that's a field full on sunflowers Trey! We have a few that popped up in our garden too this summer - not even sure how they got there to start with but nice added touch amongst my herbs.
Trey - Hearne, Texas is supposedly named after a family member. I'll need to dig out my old genealogy charts, and see if I can figure out how that was. There was quite a story that accompanies that, if I recall correctly.
